I was looking for some good Iranian/Persian book recommendations to get in the mental space of its culture and people.

Probably the modern books are the best to achieve that but I'm getting the sense of repetitiveness of people talking about the Islamic Revolutoin + immigration issues.

The wiki recommends these:

Three Drops of Blood (1932) by Sadegh Hedayat
The Patient Stone (1967) by Sadeq Chubak
The Little Black Fish and Other Modern Persian Stories (1968) by Samad Behrangi
Missing Soluch (1979) by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi
Women Without Men (1990) by Shahrnush Parsipur

But right now only Mahmoud Dowlatabadi seems to catch my eye. Maybe Colonel?
Any of you have any pointers or opinions?

My uncle Napoleon.
Dont bother with anything written past 2010, its when liberal western ideology spread like a virus diluting, and eventually taking away any original thought or aesthetic. Thank you internet.

Also, avoid diaspora like the fucking plague, because its like post 2010 iranian writing but even shitter and more globohomo.

Yeah that sounds about right. Something seems off about the sheer volume of biographies and novels about the Iranian revolution with exactly the same approach. It feels like propaganda.

Have you read Mahmoud Dowlatabadi?
I had in mind watching the series "My uncle Napoleon" since I've heard it's not a bad adaptation.

Thanks!
