— Robinson Crusoe (Daniel Defoe)
More or less.

— Pincher Martin (William Golding)
Sailor in WWII, his ship gets torpedoed, he swims to a tiny island and tries to survive. There are flashbacks and a coda but he's alone throughout the main narrative.

— I Am Legend (Richard Matheson)
More or less.

— The Unnameable (Samuel Beckett)
If you last more than two pages you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. (If you want a play rather than a novel, Krapp's Last Tape is much more readable one-character Beckett.)

A good one I forgot:

— Wittgenstein's Mistress (David Markson)
Woman is all alone in the world. She types out individual statements in the style of Wittgenstein's Tractatus. It's quite fun in a quirky way.

I read the Penguin Knight once which was the basis for my overhauling of the Wikipedia article, but I put it down halfway through for a period of a few months before completing it. It sounds like other translations are better or just, y'know, learn French.

I think I like Dent's the best, so I guess I'll read that. I do plan to learn French at some point, but I'm already learning Japanese. Seems like an interesting novel, thanks for mentioning it here

Yeah, but that was back in 1970, no?
