Sometimes I buy a new book and then, before I read it, I think about it really hard, I think about how knowledgeable I'm going to be about the respective topic after I've read it. I think about all the things I'm going to be able to read afterwards.
and then I don't read the book... but I feel like I have, because I already feel so much more knowledgeable

Define books.
Right now I'm reading Kierkegaard's letters and part of his journals. Are these considered books?

yes. I've started forcing myself to read a (small) book a day.
did the Stranger yesterday and I'm doing The Sailor Who Fell From Grace into the Sea today.
Death in Venice tomorrow.
Siddhartha and As I Lay Dying sometime after, among others.
When I run out of short books I'll switch to reading longer books across two days

Yes and no. Mainly, I write, but when I can't write, I either read or go on a bender. Past a certain point, unless you really love reading, it's just keeping you from other things.
