How do you effectively price your book?
>too expensive? People will choose an alternative
>too cheap? People will think it's poor quality

Write a shit-ton if different books and price then all at 99 cents like F Gardner. People eat his books up because of the whole “it’s Goosebumps for adults!” memes. As long as you pump out the content and make them as off the rails like Call of the Crocodile then they’ll sell. Remember Gardner has twists in all his books. People go crazy for that. Just do literally the same thing.

I think Call of the Crocodile was like 250 or something pages. The other ones I read were shorter. They’re like longer Goosebumps buts except for edgelords and schizos.

That's not how marketing works, though.

Price doesn't matter. If I see a NYT Best Seller claim on the cover then I automatically disregard the book and pick something else.

Judging by your picrel the best way to price your book would be to hang yourself

You price a book like you would any product, somewhere above the cost of production (and if it's an digital good that "cost" includes the manhours, electricity, advertising etc) but below the average perceived value of the chosen target audience. If your book is sufficiently niche then there will be no alternative and you can price it as long as cumulative other services or products aren't perceived as more entertaining, if it's not niche then... why are you in this business? Never compete on price: because there will always be someone with more reserves who will be willing to undercut and charge a lower price but spends more money on advertising for volume, that's if they aren't using the book as a 'loss leader' for some other product they're selling (a video, a franchise, a game etc.)

I think you could start a business that offers something similar to how Bandcamp works for music, offer a digital download for free, or low price, and then a physical version with some other goodies. A bit soi-boyish but then again the biggest market for books these days is women.

Also I feel it is my duty to post the original uncropped image.
