if you "read" a "book" on a digital device, you did not "read" that "book"

>> No.20422919

is it ok if its printed using a press, or must it be handwritten? does it need to be etched on a stone tablet to count? or heard from the mouth of a bard?

Dude who cares you can literally see what percent you are currently at how is that not good enough? I’ve gotten so used to it now that I can tell how many pages a book is roughly by looking at the location number. Also some books actually do have the actual page number depending on if they added that into the meta data of the file.

I’ve probably read close to 100 books on my kindle over the past few years. I can also read for longer stretches of time because I don’t get fatigued as easily (holding big books) and I can read while laying in bed at night next to my wife without disturbing her. I have the paper white though so it has a backlight.

It's funny because since i disabled all that crap i read a LOT more.
Knowing where you are can give you clues about where the story is going.
Also it made me quit books sometimes when you notice you're not progressing fast enough and that the book could last you months.
Once you disable it you just focus on enjoying what you're reading. I can't do that with physical books.

A more interesting point:

With the advent of audiobooks we really need a word that means "read or listen to <text>".

If you listen to Moby Dick on audiobook, it's kinda wrong to say "I've read Moby Dick", but it's misleading to say "I haven't read Moby Dick".

There doesn't seem to be any even half-way decent word. "Ingested"? "Experienced"?

WE, /LIT/, MUST MAKE UP A SUITABLE WORD AND POPULARIZE IT
