Why has the quality of this board declined so much? It used to be full of interesting discussions and you could here and there find genuinely well-read and intelligent posters to engage with. Nowadays it's just zoomers who don't read posturing anonymously ad infinitum. I've had better luck finding good discussions on pl*bbit during the last few months than on this forsaken wasteland.

They sang the song that elevated humanity. Hundreds of thousands of inspired voices emerged from the global crisis and spoke powerful testimony about the value of life and the wonder of the universe. Their communications would touch the souls of billions and inspire incredible personal and social transformations. They would give birth to a generation of creatives that would outshine even them.

It most definitely was not called "normal," but the opposite: a strangification of experience; a socially infectious enchantment with life and all of existence. It was a psycho-social singularity, a singularity of human relationships including the transpersonal. What led it is the call of wonder, what drove it was the desire of curiosity at its greatest heights of aspiration.

Have you ever had a teacher who truly loved and lived to teach? Who had an overwhelming passion for teaching that made them an outstanding instructor? The kind of teacher who successfully infects students with the desire to learn and explore?

I have! I know they exist! I know how they have touched me! I have felt the same spark of inspiration in so many including writers, philosophers, artists, scientists, and their greatest passions speak of this blissful love of learning. If such passions could touch the hearts of the masses, it would be the single most transformative event in human history.

This is my greatest dream, and one day it will become a reality.

Thinking Optimally.
What is most important is the overall path. You should want to suffer temporarily in order to take the best path, and you should also want to avoid temptation in the present if it amounts to the worst path possible.
Sometimes what will take place in the future outweighs what takes place in the present, so one must act accordingly. In that case, just place your concern in the future so that it will all work out for the best.

If you have a great future secured, then you can try to make the most of the present.

Is there more to life than this?

Yes, experiencing everything you've ever dreamed of before you pass on to the next state of existence so that you may leave entirely fulfilled. At least make a lasting impression that is how you want to be remembered. Because human life itself is impermanent and dissolves into the oneness of reality.

I shroud myself with a borrowed cloak of mysterious stoicism. My beard must stay trimmed and my mouth closed, either in a gentle smirk or no expression at all. I am groomed and look sharp, aligned and elegant. I conceal the wet marshes of black hairs opening in a distorted arching slit that passes as a debaucherous smile of yellowed crooked rocks, from which the bowels of a flesh grotto summons an ascending baritone-vibrato that purrs words of a vulgarity paced several steps ahead the most perverted of drifters. With the suit and the glasses, the clean face and the poise, in my material aspect I am the perfect abstract totem, while in my immaterial delivery of presently-concocted ideas, I am as concretely despicable as the pictures of obscenity that my words paint. As the feelings of physical repulsion they cause. I am a baby elephant with a rebellious tentacle coming out of my face. I am too uncoordinated to be a gentle giant, the impact of my threshing and stomping and the thunder of my voice still impresses me, outstretching what I knew of myself. Should my words ever achieve praise or acclaim, then they should be read and not heard. Should I be heard instead of seen or read, then my casual, cavalier arrogance, crass audacity and impulsiveness will paint me for what I only partially am. The written words that come from the bowels of my mind and spirit, delivered in a state of immaculate sensory deprive from the outer world, flowing organically through me, connect to the reserved erudition of cautious judgement through which I recognize the inner voice of my mind. Makes me think that my general crudity is more a Jungian persona than a real piece of my substance, or maybe they are different patches cut from my the cloth of my consciousness. To be either reduced to one aspect, the least flattering, and the one that walks the thinnest line between being either a masque of spur of the moment delectable jest and judgement-rejecting impudence, and being a genuine instinctive and emotional assertion, almost to a chemical level, of how to approach the world, is something that I've grown to fear somewhat. My silence marks that and nags me like a woodpecker sitting on my shoulder and drilling through my temple. My consciously active body language and manner of speech. Everything I never wanted to be, wooden and affected, born out of my assumption that the affectation is the real, most concealed and truthful form of my soul.

Guénon had a good life.

>In 1930, Guénon left Paris for Cairo and he blended definitively into the Muslim world. During his lengthy sojourn in Egypt, René Guénon carried on an austere and simple life, entirely dedicated to his writings.[66] First, he lived for seven years in various places in the medieval Judeo-Islamic quarters around the Khan el-Khalili and al-Azhar University, one of the most important intellectual centers of the Sunni Muslim world. He sought in 1930 to meet Sheikh Abder-Rahman Elish El-Kebir, the master of the Sufi spiritual lineage to which he was affiliated, but he had just died and he could only meditate on his grave.[67] He met Sheikh Salâma Râdi, then the "pole" ("Qutb"), the highest authority since the death of Abder-Rahman Elish El-Kebir of the Shâdhilite branch to which Guénon belonged.[68] They exchanged on questions spiritual experiences and several testimonies attest that Guénon became his disciple.[69]

>One morning at dawn while he was praying, like every day, at the Seyidna el Hussein mosque in front of the mausoleum housing the head of Husayn ibn Ali, he met Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim with whom he became very close.[70] Guénon married Ibrahim's youngest daughter in 1934 with whom he had four children. In 1937, thanks to the generosity of an English admirer, John Levy, the couple became owners of a small villa, the “Villa Fatma” named after the wife, in the modern district of Duqqi west of Cairo at the foot of the pyramids. Guénon hardly ever went out and often refused Western visitors (the address remained secret).[71] He spent most of his time working in his office and praying in his oratory.[72]

Yeah but why is it so hard to figure out what that path is? Also how do you deal with relative possibilities?
i.e. lower payoffs, but higher certainty with the same short term suffering as higher payoffs with inverse certainty?
>n that case, just place your concern in the future so that it will all work out for the best.
It doesn't "all work out" though. Books don't make you fall back in love with the world or give you practical knowledge to deal with dilemmas. Relationships stop after a few dates. Jobs doesn't turn into brilliant career moves. Attempts to learn marketable skills fail to find a market. Buying pieces of equipment to learn those skills does motivate you to develop them, only to realize that your expectations were wrong.
Tiem and time again you have to deal with the unpredictability of other people. Flaky people. People who have the power to hire or fire you and, understandably, are not aware nor invested in your "potential".
It never works out.
Why suffer short term if you can't even be sure what temptations you should avoid?
> At least make a lasting impression that is how you want to be remembered.

In modern society we see propaganda for an atheistic, materialist worldview. We are told that this is the rational, intelligent, correct way of understanding reality. However, when we analyze the atheist materialist paradigm we will see that it is nowhere near as rational, intelligent, or sophisticated as they want us to believe, and in fact, is precisely the opposite of those things. We will see how atheist materialism is self-refuting, incoherent, and objectively wrong. We will also see that arguments that atheists make against Christianity are not valid arguments, but are nothing more than emotionalism, logical fallacies, and political propaganda.
The contemporary worldview comes from the 17th and 18th century intellectual and political movements of the so-called "Enlightenment". The spirit of this age was one of liberalism, rebellion against the church and the monarchy, and a rise of anti-traditional and anti-Christian thought, famously seen in the likes of Voltaire and the French revolutionaries. Philosophers of this era can largely be divided into two schools of thought: the rationalists and the empiricists. The empiricists believed that the only way to knowledge is through empirical sense data, i.e., what you can see, hear, touch, and so on.
Empiricism quickly ran into a problem as pointed out by the Scottish empiricist David Hume. If sense data is the only path to knowledge, then the only way you could know that is through sense data. There is no sense data which tells us that, and even if there were, it would require you to assume it is correct in the first place. This is a logical fallacy known as "begging the question," wherein you assume in your premise the very thing that you are trying to prove. David Hume acknowledged that empiricism had no ultimate foundation to stand on. He used an example of billiard balls. If one ball is moving and it hits another ball and the second ball starts moving, you interpret this as causality. You understand that the first ball caused the second ball to move. However, if you are a strict empiricist, then this is an entirely baseless assumption that you just made. You pressuposed the law of causality, which is not material data that you perceive through your physical senses. It is a metaphysical concept, which, on your own grounds as an empiricist, you cannot know. You also presupposed many other transcentental categories such as the law of induction, time, identity over time (that this is the same ball as what you saw one second ago, if we grant you that one second ago really happened, which you have no way of proving), the assumption that you interpreted the data accurately, the external world, the self (that you are a person with awareness capable of making observations of the world around you), knowledge, and the assumption that the future will resemble the past in such a way that this event could be reproduced with predictable results.

>>20414442
Transcendental categories must be presupposed in order to make sense of the world and make any knowledge claims at all, and thus it was clear that empiricism had no grounds as an ultimate worldview. The German philosopher Immanuel Kant understood that raw sense data was insufficient. Kant developed a system of idealism from the transcendental categories similar to Aristotle. Even Aristotle, a pagan in the time before Christ, understood the absurdity of some of the claims that many atheists today make. Some students of philosophy attempted to debate Aristotle by saying that the laws of logic such as the law of non-contradiction, as a metaphysical concept, cannot be known to truly exist because it is not material. Aristotle rebuked the stupidity of this argument, pointing out that they were using logic to try to disprove logic, thus refuting themselves. You cannot attempt to disprove something when you assume it in your premise. You defeat your own argument by doing so. Some atheists in the present day attempt to get around this problem by saying that logic is an electro-chemical reaction in the brain. This is a very weak argument. If this were true, then it could not be reasonably inferred to make accurate descriptions of reality at all. There is no reason to presume that matter can make accurate observations of matter. The scientific method, which many atheists think can serve as their ultimate foundational worldview, presupposes the metaphysical concepts already mentioned above. The 20th century American philosopher Willard van Ormand Quine, who was an atheist himself, admitted that science is totally unjustifiable as an atheist. He still believed in science, but, by his own admission, science and the possibility of any knowledge at all was impossible to prove or justify. It was a faith claim. He refuted the logical positivist school who believed that science could be philosophically justified within the atheist paradigm. Ultimately, Quine said, it all comes down to "what works" and even he acknowledged that this falls into circular reasoning and begging the question. As an atheist, there was no way out of it. The Enlightenment project came to an epistemological dead end.

Another problem with materialism is nominalism, which you implicitly assume if you are a materialist. Nominalism is the belief that there are no universal categories. In other words, in the nominalist view, any particular object has no essence. It is merely a collection of matter and the name that we give it is only an arbitrary label that we use for the sake of convenience, but has no ultimate truth to it. For example, if you are a nominalist, then what we call a table is only a collection of particles arranged in a certain way (based on an ideal which does not actually exist except in your mind, which is only matter if you are a materialist), and it does not share an essence with other objects that we call tables. Nominalism is the opposite of what we might call essentialism or Platonic realism, which holds that all objects of a certain type have an essence which exists in a realm of ideals called Platonic forms. Thus all particular tables are instantiations of the Platonic form of table. In this view, we can see how objects have a permanent, ultimate meaning. That is not the case in nominalism, wherein all objects are only arbitrary groupings of particles, and thus a "table" does not actually exist if we take nominalism to its conclusion. Nominalism also led to the false theory of evolution. In the nominalist view, a biological species is not a real category, but only an arbitrary label of many individual organisms, and we can follow this false logic to the incorrect conclusion of the transmutation of species, which means these types of organisms change into other types, seeing as how species are not real distinctions but only made up names. The Christian philosopher Maximus the Confessor, who lived over a thousand years before Darwin, already showed that it is impossible for a species to change into a different species (he used the term "species" in a more broad sense which would include biological species but was not limited to that) because species are quite literal, real, and distinct categories in the metaphysical structure of the world created by God. If a species could change into a different species, that would mean it was according to the nature of that species from its origin to change, and if that is the case, then it could never stop changing because that is according to its own nature and it cannot become of a nature that does not change. Something that has a nature of not changing could not come from an origin of a changing nature, nor could it become a species with a nature of changing because that would violate its own nature. It also is impossible for a species to change and never stop changing because what has an origin must also have a telos. A created species cannot move in a direction infinitely because that would require a property of what is uncreated.

I hate my city. I would most likely hate all big cities for same reason.

Noise.
Everything illuminated all night.
Trash everywhere. From small litter literally everywhere, to piles of trash bags spilling out of containers.
Dog shit.
Dogs not on leash, so you keep your fingers crossed they are not having a bad day. The other day a dog tried to bite my mom, no warning, and she was just calmly passing by. That dog was actually on the leash. If it hadn't been, my mom would end up with mauled leg.
Sidewalks are poorly maintained and often narrow. People walk on whichever side they want, and ride their bike or electric scooter on whichever side they want, however fast they want.
A woman on bike was approaching me, swerving a lot cause the surface is uneven, or maybe she is lousy bike rider, I don't know. Bit too early for her to be piss drunk.
Normally people on bikes move to the other side if we happen to be on the same one, or they move slowly enough for me to switch to the other one, but this one made me stop and stand a bit to the side, cause I frankly didn't know which side she wants to take, and as she passed me she muttered: "How about you move aside, huh?"
If she were an elephant she would still have enough room to pass on that spot. She had enough room to pass, I gather she just hates the idea that she should adjust to others.

I hate this city.

I think I'm coming to understand that Kierkegaard was correct in that you can't get both love and marriage. Like the mouse in Kafka's story, my life choices, thoughts and things I value in a sense push me further into a future I presumably want. In making myself in respect to society at large, something not really possible not to do, blind love and the most absolute of romances become everso distant from me. Yet, if I choose to forgo the sociality of relationships as expressed as marriage by Kierkegaard, am I ever free from it's consequences? Perhaps this is precisely why he eloped on his fiancee but continued to love her. Regina seemed to appreciate the pure but torturous kind of love Kierkegaard chose, or rather leaped into.

Pushing at the boundaries of your understanding and experience - the will to discover- is the ultimate life-affirming action. For every ounce of despair you feel at the present condition of the world, push a pound harder against the tyranny of your expectations!

Praise the everlasting question mark, the infinite unknown that keeps us always in motion, forever becoming and never complete!
>Unlike habit, which is carried out in a determinate world, trust is paradoxically exercised in a world of indeterminacy, what James calls the "plastic zone, the transmission belt of the uncertain, the meeting point of the past and the future." It is indeterminacy that makes us need trust, but it is also because we have trust that we take the risk of the indeterminate. The feeling of trust makes experience a field of experimentation. It is therefore the condition for every form of creation.

I think at this point most people don't have a a political ideology based on fundamental beliefs, rather their politics are just based around whatever they don't like. For example, many leftists these days just don't like capitalism, probably because support capitalism is not in their perceived self-interests at the moment, and have very little care for the actual historical-materialist beliefs that serve as its basis. Many conservatives are the same way - their beliefs just exist as a reaction to leftist/liberal beliefs, and to any extreme right-wing beliefs such as Fascism and National Socialism. Fascists and National Socialists exist primarily in opposition to liberalism and leftism as well.
Liberalism is one of the few modern beliefs that doesn't exist in reaction to anything but instead subsists on the fundamental basis that all humans have inalienable rights. Traditionalists are also *reactionary* but some of the things that traditionalists believe also have a set basis, depending on what flavor of traditionalist comes to mind - the divine right of kings is a fundamental basis for a belief that some traditionalists hold.
I think a lack of a fundamental belief basis for any ideology will lead to the downfall of such ideology, for example the soviet union fell after many of its bureaucrats lost their adherence towards communism after seeing how prosperous even poor citizens were in capitalist countries. There's no need for communism if poor people under capitalism live better lives than rich people under communism.
Take all this with a grain of salt, however. I don't have a degree in political science and someone is bound to nitpick and state that their beliefs exist on a fundamental logical basis therefore this generalization that I made is completely wrong.

You seem to misunderstand my main point. I wasn't pointing out how people believe in what will serve their self-interests. Nor was I trying to make it out to be a grand revelation. Rather, I was just pointing out that the beliefs that many people hold these days are just seemingly reactionary in nature. One could hold beliefs that are in their self-interest while at the same time having those beliefs based on something fundamental rather than reactionary. The Enlightenment and Revolutionary Period had these fundamental beliefs but both the liberal bourgeoisie and reactionary aristocrats were self-interested.

Thinking about how amoral scientists tend to be, a lot people excuse science from moral responsibility because of its noble search for truth. Comparing scientists to lay people, on the other hand, shows that their morally the same. Scientists are shitty people because people tend towards the shitty.
The only group that may lay claim is philosophy but no one takes philosophers seriously. They must take into account their own impotence when laying out the makeup of existence.
Is the thought of Chinese dynasty validated against the failing of western consciousness? Sure, western science is better. But sooner or later it will succumb to Oriental customs.
This in itself is not bad, adopting foreign customs. They'll adopt some of ours. The idea is that the validated morality is Asiatic. Western philosophy is given its death knell.
Even western philosophy sees its own demise. Contemporary philosophy is marred with technology, pragmatism, and AIOntology. All ready to be consumed by eastern mouths. We will all be all the greater for it. It won't be a victory of the east. It's the consummation of the new era. Of Oneness.

It's just cope to say that one was living life by their own terms or going at their own pace when they have missed out on many important life experiences. Your path is your own path. Morality and reason is how you find it and pursue it. Without them, you have no compass, so you won't follow your path but you'll go nowhere. And of course I'd say you need faith too but many people on here get triggered when they hear it. But following morals and reason will eventually set you on the right path, which is your own path, yes.

The less information we consume the more novel our ideas.
Our thoughts become less remarkable the more we try to fit them into the framework of preexisting ideas.
Reading to the bottom of this thread before posting has subsumed any of my initial originality, and has instead parasitised my post into a reflection on the epistemic nature of sharing, rather than divulging my actual thoughts, which I have now forgotten.
We are drowing in a sea of our own collective shit and any attempt to remove oneself is met with constipatory realisation that the sewers are in fact shared.

The transcendentalists (Emerson and Thoreau) believed that true art and a meaningful life was intuitive and divine and thus advocated for spending time in nature away from the rest of society. Their works have a heavy focus on individualism and spirituality. Ironically though, their beliefs were inspired by Kantian idealism. I suggest Walden and Self-Reliance.

Personally, I would have to disagree somewhat with your post. I do think great works have to come from some spark within, but having more information ingrained in one's brain doesn't necessarily take away from creativity. Many great works themselves alluded to prior great works, mythology, and the bible.

I know some neets will say they don’t want that stuff, but I think deep down they do, or they wouldn’t be so defensive. Ideally I’d want to work less because I don’t need that much money. But the economy and the rat race makes it essential to work full time. It’s so liberating to have your own place. With many becoming more radical, those opposing take a more radical stance, then the other side, then the other side. Many are getting sucked away from the center towards the fringes. It’s an indictment of society that everyone is unhappy and looking to blame others. The quality of life is low and many of both sides are reactionary today, just to lash out. It's weird how everyone clings to the idea of gun control when it comes to mass killings. The truth is someone who wants to kill a fuckton of people will find a way, just look at Japan where you had a guy murder tons of old people in a retirement home with a knife, or the guy who drove a truck through Akihabara. How about the KyoAni arsonist? If you take away the easiest way to perpetrate mass murder, they'll just move to the 2nd easiest way and so on.

The truth is that mass murder of innocents is becoming common now because these guys are fucked up individuals who need human contact, but get isolated in their rooms and spend all day online, watching the news, or speaking to other people in discord and radicalizing themselves. What they need is some personal connection to keep them grounded to reality. 50 years ago, society kept these guys under control through stronger community ties. Now tons of people fall through the cracks and they just go crazy.

The problem is we're not talking about like a one-time encounter, but a continuing relationship that keeps these people in line. 100 years ago, this was automatic because familial ties were way stronger. Now, most people don't even eat at the same table, they barely know their family. Pretty much all criminals have absentee parents in some form, it's a bad combo of dangerous disposition + nobody to keep you in check. When will this meme end? A cat lady is considerably higher than the lowest denominator of woman that makes my dick hard. It's such a midwit take to assume that men who can't get laid have high standards just because women all have high standards.

>The truth is someone who wants to kill a fuckton of people will find a way
Not really, for one it's much harder to do it in pretty much any other halfway civilized place where gun access to civilians is much more limited than in the USA. The examples you listed are isolated and from many years ago. America outnumbers other countries in gun violence many many times. And two, living in America creates its own unique psychopathology (mix of glorification of violence and criminals, non-solutions to mental health plus now more recent developing issues like political polarization/radicalization, alienation of young men etc), there's places like Switzerland where everybody is armed to the teeth but there's no mass shootings or really barely any gun violence at all

Incels put sex on a pedestal. It’s mind boggling to me that many would rather forgo companionship, and live and die alone, then be with a girl that’s had some dicks stuck in her before you were involved with her romantically. They would rather be lonely. It’s crazy. That tells me incels value sex over companionship. You’re going to live along time, 50 or 60 years alone because of your standards. Maybe this isn’t true of you, but look around on this board- a literature board. Who fucking cares?; life’s too short to be jealous of guys she was with beforehand. It’s crazy. And if she cheats, you move on to the next one. I bet a lot of incels will get defensive and start justifying, or trashing women. It’s cool though, nature finds a way to stop low quality genes from continuing

i think the incel focus on sex is a cope (because if they really wanted just that they could get it) and what they actually desire is to be desired, only most of them are well aware that they're not worthy of deep romantic and/or sexual desire, since they're usually rotten/bitter/angry/not very interesting people

Ordinary mild ethnonationalist, just remember yours are the default positions of any nation not brainwashed with propaganda 24/7 and don't let yourself be tricked into thinking the only vehicle for your views is some extremist bullshit. Just wait out the collapse of the current unnatural mental prison and watch as every normal person spontaneously agrees with everything you said.

The natural tendency of the European collective consciousness is toward nation states based on relatively obvious ethnic-cultural-linguistic divisions (with room for exceptions like the Swiss and room for variety like the internal variety of the Italians), and Europeans naturally value individualism and liberalism too. It's just in the blood. There's a reason we spontaneously manifested social-democratic nation states as a more or less ideal type.

Trust in that natural tendency and you don't need any dumb meme extremism. Call yourself a national socialist or national syndicalist or integralist or fascist or simply nationalist, whatever you want, as long as you don't get a swastika tattooed on your forehead.

Remember, it's normal not to want Muslims in Sweden. It's not hateful either. What is normal tends to spontaneously manifest unless unnaturally prevented from doing so. The long reign of un-European unnatural "multiculturalism" (open borders Anglo-American financial parasitism) is about to end.

I agree. That all goes back to my point that you can only change yourself, and therefore see value in yourself not through other people’s eyes. Too many people are focused on the external today to feel value, whether it’s drug, sex, Facebook likes, wanting to change others you don’t like, etc.

>The examples you listed are isolated and from many years ago.
I'm not sure if it's fair to dismiss my examples just because they're not as common. Japan actually has a bit of a mass murder problem too.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Japan
(You said they're from many years ago: The most recent was last year)
Like, control for gang violence which we can consider a different issue, and Japan's frequency of mass murder is not that drastically different from America's.

Anyway, calling them "isolated incidents" is saying the two problems are totally unrelated for no reason. "America has a mass murder problem because of guns, but Japan has one because... umm... I don't know"

My point is these are two of the most alienated societies on earth, where the traditional family and community bonds have degraded due to societal pressure, and the internet/news media sphere has come in to fill the gap.

>And two, living in America creates its own unique psychopathology (mix of glorification of violence and criminals, non-solutions to mental health plus now more recent developing issues like political polarization/radicalization, alienation of young men etc), there's places like Switzerland where everybody is armed to the teeth but there's no mass shootings or really barely any gun violence at all
Well yeah, this is basically what I'm saying. Except it's not just an America thing, it could happen anywhere if certain conditions arise.

Ultimately banning guns isn't the solution. There are a ton of crazy people out there being neglected, just because you deny them one means of going postal doesn't mean we've got it solved.
