I’m torn between cs which has good prospects and allows me to travel to other countries and get a lot of remote positions fairly easily) and philosophy which I think I have more of a talent for and would find more interesting.
Would a Phil degree help me get a tech job and if not could I do a masters in a more hard science subject after completing it?
I’d love to live a romantic artists life but my parents have no money so I need a decent way to support myself and ideally travel and work a bit. Is there any way I can go for the passion subject and still accomplish this?

I did philosophy in university. I ended up becoming a lawyer. And I'm very unlike all the other lawyers I work with.

Academia is rigged these days. In the majority of cases you'll be stuck as an adjunct with shit pay, shit hours, and maybe benefits if you're lucky. University environments are becoming increasingly corporatized so they find news ways to screw you every day and milk you for revenue streams. You'll work your ass to the bone and get fuck-all. Also, plenty of academics are petty, pompous assholes and departmental infighting can be brutal.

I studied philosophy, learned Python, mostly automated my job. Coding is pretty fun, and it enables you to be lazy while still being middle-class. I write stories regularly on the clock.

if you can swing it, do what I did: double major in philosophy and something more concrete/tangible/allows for better job prospects. sure, you can get just a phil degree then if you are a decent interviewer and can network well just become a marketer or an analyst or a dishwasher or a lawyer or pick up programming yourself or whatever.. but for you specifically I'd do phil + comp sci. I did phil and electrical engineering and now I program robots in factories and occasionally go to philosophy seminars in my university town. I'm happy with how it all turned out

I do half way decent. But I don't have a lawyer's personality. I'm a little too 'thoughtful' if that make sense. Law, in large part, is about procedure -- within the firm and in the courts. It's actually not all that creative. I don't think philosophy lends well to the law. It's not some sort of creative endeavor, especially in tort law. I do personal injury. It's a lot of wheeling and dealing. You make your fees or you don't. And if you don't, you're out. My job makes me feel bad -- like ethically. My co-workers don't care very much. They're vulgar and I think they're on a lower level of consciousness.

I don't disagree. But people need lawyers. And if they didn't, they wouldn't exist. We provide a valuable service and we can do trials.

I probably won't be doing it for the entirety of my life.

You can tell a lot about a person by the way he treats others. The other attorneys are very nasty. They scream and curse at clients -- I'm not exaggerating. They're also very gossipy. Office politics is a thing in every law firm, and I try not to participate, to my own detriment. What is office politics? Favoritism -- and it has nothing to do with hard work. They laugh at others misfortunates. I can tell what type of people they are. Their egos are very high. They're extremely critical and this is, I'm sure, because of their own flaws and insecurities. When I say that these attorneys are vulgar and on a lower level of consciousness, this is what I mean -- and perhaps only a person who has worked with attorneys would understand what I mean by all this.

Study philosophy in your own time. Go for CS. You shouldn't choose a stable and fruitful career over what seems "fun" to you. A lot of people never had that luxury and they created the world you live in. Give back and actual bribg value to the world. A lot of great philospohers, writers and musicians had a different career while they honed their passion.

checked, pic related, and the counter argument to this would be that learning philosophy at a "competent" level is very hard to do without teachers, other students, a school setting, setc.

That's for people who don't know shit, both the student and the person looking over your resume. The point of an education, especially one that is meant to give meaningful enrichment and satisfaction, is enrichment. It doesn't matter, in that case, where you go.
The FBI might not be the most competent organization out there, what government agency is, but they do pretty well for themselves. Look at who they hire to be their hackers. Many of them are kids who were "up to no good", phreaking phones and hacking into the Pentagon. If you want a good boss, you'll want the boss who wants you for you, not for your diploma.
