Is there a good book about self control? Repeating 'just do it' thousand times a day isn't really working for me, I slip into the void again and again

These will inform you how much of an automaton you are, so you can stop blaming yourself avout your nature and take action within it.

Read Jung's Autobiography.

"Positive Desintegration" ; by Kazimierz Dabrowksi.

Then check out Marshall Mcluhan and Northrop Frye; start with "Apocalypse and Alchemy"

Finally " The Art of Memetics" by Craig Lightfoot.

Atomic Habits, probably. It's less about self control and more about engineering your life so that doing or not doing certain things becomes automatic, eliminating the need for self control.

i have no book rec, but have you tried adjusting your internal monologue? when I'm 'in the void', trying to guilt myself into doing things only adds to the sense of overwhelming pressure, which forces detachment. even switching thinking to "i WANT to do x" instead of "i need to do x" helps considerably.

read " Autopoiesis" by Maturana and Varella.

>t self control? Repeating 'just do it' thousand times a day isn't really working for me, I slip into the void again and again
Your "Self-Control" is that which wants to repeat the behaviour.

"Control" is your "Self" which is your Desire to reach for that thing, to reapeat the behaviour
>>“The Fremen were supreme in that quality the ancients called "spannungsbogen" -- which is the self-imposed delay between desire for a thing and the act of reaching out to grasp that thing.”
You are the whoooole-process.
What is influencing you to do that behaviouir? what desire? what Trauma? what Feelings? and so on and so forth

Seneca's Epistulae Morales ad Lucilium
>But if you seek pleasure in every direction and of every kind, then be aware that you are as far removed from wisdom as you are from joy. Joy is your aim, but you are off course: you think that you will get there amid riches and accolades; in other words, you seek joy in the midst of anxiety! You go after those things on the ground that they will bestow happiness and pleasure, but in reality they are causes of pain.

>Everyone you see is in pursuit of joy, but they do not know where great and lasting joy is to be had. One tries to get it from dinner parties and self-indulgence; another from elections and crowds of supporters; another from his girlfriend; another from pointless display of education and literary studies that do not heal what is amiss. All of them are deceived by specious and short-lived enticements, like drunkenness, that pays for a single hour's cheery insanity with a long-lasting hangover, or like the applause and acclamation of a large following, that costs you great anxiety both to get and retain. So ponder this: the result of wisdom is steadiness of joy

Beautiful quote. The 1st sentence here pretty much all of /lit, though I know I am guilty of it too.

>Is there a good book about self control? Repeating 'just do it' thousand times a day isn't really working for me, I slip into the void again and again
then actually 'do it', you idiot, telling yourself to do it is overrated.

if you can't do it then put the back of your cohorts to the river so that when the enemy charges THEY. HAVE. NOWHERE. TO. RUN. AND. ARE. FORCED. TO. FIGHT
haaa
it will be an easy victory if you are such a cohort and your back is to such a river

but the cohort is your molecules and the river is the previous version of yourself before you read this.

now go
