I seriously don't get this book at all or what people find so incredible about it.

The Devil and his demonic retinue arrive in post-revolutionary Moscow to celebrate Walpurgis Night. This is just incredibly funny.
I appreciate the Yershalaim chapters, I don’t really like the Master’s line, but reading about the communication of sovietic normys with natural demons, what could be more fun?

The White Guard is much, MUCH better.

I agree. I do not quite like The Master and Margarita, but I consider it a good book, important in a general cultural sense. From a purely literary point of view, "The White Guard" is better.

I bought the hype and was incredibly disappointed. The first chapter was great but everything afterwards was extremely dry

It's garbage. It's terrible even in Russian.

>> No.20351052

It’s massively overrated because the fantastical elements make it more accessible to normans

It's funny in the way Kafka is funny. Do you find Kafka funny anon? It's more about the situation and how absurd it is than any sort of punchline

There's nothing funny about being turned into a cockroach. That's some scary shit, no laughing matter.

Kafka's neighbors complained that when he was up late at night writing his shit he would lose his mind with laughter and wake everybody up because he thought what he was writing was so god damn funny. Kafka is hilarious

Are you sure you aren't misremembering this
>Kafka's friend, Max Brod, talked of how Kafka found humour in his dark works - especially the chilling "The Trial", which he thought a hoot, laughing so hard while reading the first chapter aloud, that he repeatedly had to stop to collect himself.

Some parts were boring and as a whole it felt disjointed, but I really loved Margarita as a character. She was a genuine lady badass and feminist heroine. It was refreshing.
