How would you adapt it to film? Is it possible?

3 amateur actors interpreting all of the roles in the book, with costumes rented from the local Halloween costumes shop, shot in some guy's backyard, featuring obnoxious product placement at every single opportunity we can find, and filmed using an iPhone.

Only the genuis of James Franco could bring this to life. James Franco as the Kid, Danny McBride as Glanton, and Jonah Hill as the Judge. Instant classic.

Sam Peckingpah is the only director that could make it.

Huh? Are you baiting? There's already a movie made on this you retard. It's called No Country for Old Men. It's pretty good.

Animation like the late 90s Spawn HBO series. All the gore, surreal landscape shots, and narration you like. You wouldn't have to be limited by run-time either.

oh yea lets turn blood meridian into a stoner comedy add in seth rogan as the judge and it basically writes itself

Memes aside, it can't be done. And if attempted would just be another western

>> No.20339546

If it was made into a miniseries itd probably be better than the book because you'd at least be impressed with the landscape and the gore and makeup design

I feel if any director could do the book justice, it would be Terrence Malick

a Denis Villeneuve adaptation would be kino

>> No.20339941

Yes but it wouldn’t really be called a film. I’d say it’s definitely worth adapting, but as a visual library of sorts, instead of just a normal film.
Many hours of film set up in many parts/episodes. One for each chapter. Must have the same raw and almost impersonal aura of the book. No fluff, just presenting the events of the book on screen as rawly as possible.
Kinda like the Mormon Bible videos on YouTube. Very boring and plain but that’s the point. It gets the story across without holding your hand.

CGI John Wayne as the Judge

Sure if you want some soulless hackjaob. Deakins isn't married to Villeneuve you know.

>> No.20340363

I wouldn't. It wouldn't work as a movie
suttree would work better as a HBO style mini-series.

>> No.20340393

It’s really not unfilmable. One of the main reasons people say this is the violence, but worse things have been depicted before. Also, much of it can be implied. The Northman featured a Viking raid where children were killed off camera and women were implicitly passed around and raped. Plus I think Robert Eggers would be a good director for Blood Meridian, though I think he’d better do a Moby Dick movie instead.

Blood Meridian actually has literary merit, it doesn’t reserve the Stephen King miniseries treatment.

>> No.20340810

I agree, but I think there’s too much density in it for a film unless they go for 3+ hours at least. I feel like it would have to be very slow, atmospheric and contemplative in between all the chaos or else it might just look like a normal action western.

It would never happen, natives being portrayed as savages would make people seethe.

I'm still not sure whether the Coens could have pulled it off or nah.
NCFOM was great, but McCarthy clearly wrote that book with a screenplay in mind.
BM is a different beast, and while pretty much anyone could make a movie that follows its basic story beats, capturing what makes it a good book would be much harder than that.
A Suttree adaptation by them would have been guaranteed kino though, shame they split up.
