Just caught up to Peculiar Soul on RR, seems decent for now. The author obviously put a lot of effort into this work and the worldbuilding, using epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter and photoshoping actual WW1 propaganda posters/newspapers to add some flavor. I'm honestly impressed.

Pic-related, mostly. It's a charming enough LitRPG isekai thing, but female author and protagonist which leads to some different approaches that I don't always agree with (for some reason we get basically a blow-by-blow of every day and four books in, she's only been in the world for 18 days or some such, it just feels like too much is happening at once, also just way too many fucking characters), and I know a lot of people here would kind of hate it, but I found it entertaining just because the protagonist herself is kind of just fun to read about.

It's a very funny, enjoyable book, but do skip the other two. The second is only decent, the third jumps the shark so hard I thought it was written by a ghost writer. The author supposedly had a lot of shit happen to him over the years that most likely influenced the quality, but it's just bad.

>>20312858
Azarinth Healer webnovel. It's incredibly trashy, despite writing few thousand of pages throught the years the author still haven't improved enough, the writing itself is clunky as fuck. But it's one of the more popular LitRPGs for a reason, it's insanely juicy progression popcorn. Too bad the author had a breakdown recently, which somewhat influenced his decision to end AH in the close future, we are on the last arc. But I think it will be a just ending to the series, one the first great LitRPGs, I had weeks when all I could do in life was wait for 5 PM to read another chapter of it, the highlight of the most depressing weeks of my life.

Okay guys, I ask for recommendations for good fantasy erotica, as I've noticed that despite hundreds of different book charts existing in the linked megaupload folder, not a single one concern Erotic Fantasy or even modern Erotica. Normal Fantasy with strong erotic themes and scenes, pure erotica, harem novels, if it's good, mention it. At the moment I'm reading 'Good Intentions' (picrel), and I must say I'm suprised how damn good it is, I haven't seen something so hot and titilating in a while. I heard something about Kushel Dart being a good erotica, so that's going onto the list, so if you happened to read it, please give your rating for that. As there is no chart for Fantasy Erotica, I intend to do one myself at some point.

I repeat, I ask for FANTASY/SCI-FI EROTICA recommendations, mainly Fantasy, but Sci-fi too if it's good. I mainly intend to read books for men, but if there's good gay fantasy, either for females or males, I'm might try it as well, want to experience the breath of the genre.

They aren't bad. You know, you can eat your favourite dish done improperly, it's not as good as it could be, but it's your favourite dish so your going to eat it anyway. It doesn't need to be perfect if it particularly well scratches the itch a few things can. I am not wasting time if I am satisfied. I wish it was better than popcorn, and the author did attempt some things, mostly in that cynical way people who read too much grimdark do, but it was something. Frankly speaking, at its worst AH is still better than typical chinese webnovel at its average.

So, /sffg/ like or hate the Lightbringer series? I just finished the books and despite being young adult fantasy shit, i found the themes of faith, agnosticism and religion very interesting ,sadly in the final book Weeks resolves everything with a Deus ex machina and the good gods showing up and saving the day making the actions of the protagonists seem minor, the author could have been more subtle in the resolution. I liked anyway, better than Sanderson.

Perhaps now you can understand why I like RI so much and constantly recommend it.
Even if you don't like it, compared to THE REST of the chinkshit it's a breath of fresh air.
And unlike you, I read like a dozen of those awful shitty stories first before ever learning about it, so it seemed even better by contrast.
>LOTM
Yeah, that's pretty good too, though it has various issues it's easily one of the best chink webnovels ever written and has an extremely novel setting for people exhausted to death by ancient chinese fantasy settings.

I've also been reading The Path Toward Heaven, 156 chapters in so far, and I can say it's potentially really good. It has a huge issue of not giving enough clues to the central mystery to actually speculate or really care about it, but several of the side characters have plotlines that are fairly interesting. The translation quality is also very good and the writing flows smoothly.
The main catch however is that the MC is one of those "so stupidly overpowered it's not even a joke" types, though it's not as bad since he gives literally zero fucks and mostly just observes other people around him and occasionally provides advice.

Man, you serious? I read that some time ago and it's the worst erotic/harem novel I've read, it's so bad it doesnt even have the decency of having real sex scenes, just a few lines or fade to black. Character are barely characters at all, the writing is shit. Seriously, try other books, like 'Incubus Inc' or other books from the author of it. Optionally try 'The Big Waste'. Or even 'The Wild Wastes' (no connectiong to the last one), it's also harem but much better. Everything is better than that 'Heretic Spellblade' shit.

I'm a fan of Wayne Barlowe's "Hell" novels "God's Demon" and "Heart of Hell", and each has gratuitous non-sequitur sex scenes that come seemingly out of nowhere. The first book has a particularly evil antagonist raping a type of hellbeast that isn't really a "person" and is more equivalent to bestiality, to show how depraved this particular individual is; it is not erotic. The second book has a rather surprising incidence of very cute very lewd yuri action between the two succubi who are the protagonist and her sidekick, and it's portrayed more positively

I also dislike how both perspectives have so much of their character hidden in the backstory that "fills out" over time. Invisible Planets - Ken Liu, translator and editor (2016)

Cultural context certainly is important. That was evident for almost all of these stories. I may have enjoyed them more otherwise. The focus tended to be on the theme, imagery, or style, rather than the characters, setting, or an idea.

(Chinese/English Year)

The Year of the Rat - Chen Qiufan (2009/2013)
College students are conscripted to fight against genetically engineered rats, who may be both far more and less than they seem, as is everything in their life.
Meh

The Fish of Lijiang - Chen Qiufan (2006/2011)
A man goes to rehab only to find everything has changed. All is artifice and deception. The text says it's based on the philosophy of Henri Bergson. The passage of time and power are stated to be inversely related.
Meh

The Flower of Shazui - Chen Qiufan (2012/2012)
A fugitive refugee becomes infatuated with the most famous prostitute. They're wary of each other's motives, but even so they will use each other for their own ends.
Ok

A Hundred Ghosts Parade Tonight - Xia Jia (2010/2012)
A town of "ghosts", one who isn't, and the calamity that befalls them.
Meh

Tongtong’s Summer - Xia Jia (2014/2014)
This is the the most realized telepresence story of the several I've read. It's very optimistic, but also sad.
Enjoyable

Night Journey of the Dragon-Horse - Xia Jia (2015/2016)
A 47 ton sentient dragon-horse robot awakens in disrepair to begins to travel across the Earth, which is in ruin. It's like a fairy tale, but not quite that.
Meh

The City of Silence - Ma Boyong (2005/2011)
A satire about extreme censorship. The State continually decreases the number of allowable words. Online, everything is monitored. Offline, everyone must wear a device that monitors all speech. The protagonist finds a secret offline club that evades these strictures. They're all fatalistic hedonists. How familiar.
Enjoyable

Invisible Planets - Hao Jingfang (2010/2013)
A series of short description of various planets and their inhabitants.
Ok

Folding Beijing - Hao Jingfang (2014/2015)
An allegorical story about injustice, inequality, and parental sacrifice in a rotational sleep society. It's very well-regarded, but everything about it put me off.
Meh

Call Girl - Tang Fei (2014/2013)
A misleading title and set-up. A teenage girl gives a middle-aged man an experience he'll never forgot. This too is not what it seems to mean.
Meh

Grave of the Fireflies - Cheng Jingbo (2005/2014)
Almost all the stars have been extinguished, which leads them to a world with a colossal robot whose interior stops the flow of time.
Meh

The Circle - Liu Cixin (2015/2014)
A chapter adapted from The Three-Body Problem. I didn't read it again. People can be arranged to form a computer.
Meh

Taking Care of God - Liu Cixin (2005/2012)
Billions of ancient humans come to Earth as their retirement plan and ask to be taken care of.
Meh

>'Good Intentions' (picrel), and I must say I'm suprised how damn good it is
I felt the exact same way when I read these, although the last books falter a bit, they're still surprisingly decent for what I was expecting to be a bottom of the barrel pure wish fulfillment guilty pleasure series
Closest and best thing I can think of would be Tsun-Tsun TzimTzum. I'd say it's a bit lighter in the erotic scenes, but still has some pretty decent romantic and sexual developments in it. Maybe a bit heavier on the story side than Good Intentions, but still pretty good in that aspect too.
Be aware that the first book is the weakest one though, it's not bad per se, but it may feel a bit generic and just not too exciting overall, specially with how the main character acts at first (I promise he gets much better). I really enjoyed the following volumes much better though and I'd encourage people to give the series a chance since I've grown really fond of it and I've been having a bit of a hard time finding something similar to fill in the longing for more of it.
On that note, the author has two other similar series going on (Shadow Rogue and Lost Reavers) that I've heard some praise about around here but I haven't touched them yet.

>Has the author talked about how much story is left? Do they take long breaks between books or something?
You are reading books or volumes? Because starting from book 3 the volumes get cut, because they are too big. Book 6 has just been released and it covers the events up to Volume 4 finale. As for the breaks, the author takes one month of break every volume, with additional one week per month while writing. So they are basically writing constantly, Pirateaba may very much be the most prolific fiction writer living on Earth at this moment, and I write that without a any sort of irony. Top 10, at the very least.
Just remember that the first three volume (4 books) are only the beginning, a prologue of sort that sets things up, and the stroy starts picking up in Volume 4 (Books 5 and 6). Volume 5 is where TWI proper begins, and it's one of the best Fantasy stories you'll ever experience.
Most people find the beginning the least enjoyable, so if you are enjoying it already, then your enjoyment will unironically increase exponentially.

I'm only at the second volume but it's grown on me a lot, specially the characters, I'm basically falling in love with every other one and just generally caring about them and their little adventures and ambitions.
The litrpg elements are there, but there's not a lot of autism tied to it like with a lot of other books in the genre. I often forget it's litrpg and not a traditional comfy fantasy book. It's handled quite well I'd say.
The story is mostly localized in a couple places for now, but every now and then they mention places and give hints about the world in general and mysteries, and after hearing people praising the worldbuilding in the next volumes, I'm really lookimg forward to that.
It has its corny moments, specially at the very beginning, but it's already gotten better even at the point I'm at.
Overall, really fun read so far.

Erin, the main character, is not a typical protagonist, period. She's an Innkeeper, but it doesn't mean she doesn't do stuff, the opposite really. You don't need to worry about the character being written weird, characters are TWI's biggest strength. TWI, for me, is one of the best Fantasy stories ever written. Ah fuck, the decent human translation for Dumb Husky got deleted after it was licensed. I can’t in good conscience recommend reading the MTL.

It’s a shame, Dumb Husky’s overall plot and concepts (the reason that the protagonist died and woke up in the past/the reason that events of this life are happening differently, the techniques the protagonist developed in his past life being used against him, what an absolute madlad shizun actually is, the villain’s ultimate goal) are great, and I’d love to discuss them with /sffg/. Maybe in a few years when the licensed translation is done.

I think I know which copy you talk about, it's up to Volume 4 iirc. You can start reading from the author's website straight away, but I recommend doing ctrl + "+", because font is a bit small.
And yeah, I talk about TWI a lot because many people here are prejudiced agaisnt webnovels (I get some of that, most of everything is trash), and TWI being so long might seem like it's some trashy story, while the opposite is true. I just want people to experience the story themselves so that they can understand what a treasure they are missing on, one of the best fantasy stories there is, this hidden gem that way too few people know about, despite it being the most successful webnovel on Patreon.

In a way, it started even earlier, as for over two years Pirateaba was making one drawing a day, no matter what, to hone their willpower. Their schedule is iron-clad, never missed, no matter whether they fill like like writing, are sick or have problems, they write. Nothing can stop them. As Pirate started writing TWI, it was normal at first, 3-5k words per chapter, but it started steadily growing as Pirate'd grown more sure of what they are doing and they found their 'voice'. The reallt big chapters started with volumes 4-5, Pirate no longer restrained themselves and confidently started writing exactly the way they wanted.

Don't be mistaken, it takes a lot out of them, Pirate talked a lot about being utterly exhausted and sometimes even writing out of muscle memory as words blurred in their eyes, but the chapter always arrives. And the funny thing is, Pirate always claims that if they chapter was bad, they would not publish and rewrite, but to date it has happened only once in V5, I think. Pirate even has exercises and a hand massager to help with the hand exhaustion from writing so much. Writing is Pirate's one thing to do in life, they plot and think about the story 24/7, their schedule is commited to writing, even if it's only around 25 hours of actual writing per week.

Volume 3 Esthelm arc. I personally didn't like it a first, but a lot of people claim it's the best of the early TWI. So if you still want to drop it by then, then you probably should. Optionally, if you don't want to read up to Volume 3, then probably just the entire first volume. After the first finale you should more or less know what's all about, although it's still not even one fifth of TWI's potential by that time, as it gets much better. You just need to remember that the author was still finding their voice at first, so writing-wise, the first volume might be the worst, but Pirateaba improved leaps and bounds as they kept writing, so it only keeps getting better as you read.

I'm about halfway through volume 2 and only just now started to really enjoy it. Frankly that's more effort to get invested into a story than I could recommend the average person siffer through in good faith. Mainly I think the reason TWI is so long, atleast for the first 2 volumes is because so much of the story is occupied by slice of life style character interactions that don't really advance the plot. If you're okay with that I'd say give it a try but don't expect the usual Tolkien style travelogue fantasy that makes up so much modern fantasy stories. Remember this is a serialized work so it's not as tightly paced as a normal novel would be.

Reading is an active process where you must engage your brain to enjoy it, and if I'm actively using my brain, I'm going to need to something that's at least somewhat intellectually stimulating on some level. If I just want to turn my brain off for consuming, I'll just watch a show or a movie and have more imaginative people than me provide visuals, music, performances and everything else.

The writing is usually abysmal, but their coomers eat it up. I mean these people actively read Chinese machine translated webnovels, so the discontinuity and utter confusion doesn't bother them one bit.

What usually happens is that they get a prompt (like guy is transport to a forest and has to teach girls to survive), then they write in a bunch of utter nonsense and coomer activity and posts to their website and gets all the shekels. (I literally read one where the guy was listing off a how to from a youtube vid, it just felt so lifeless).

I've read, like, one from each of them and it was... Just banal. Dante King was SLIGHTLY better because it felt like the plot at least sort of mattered but it was still mostly just filler.

Yes, King was better than the other two with an actual plot (kinda), but his characters came across as YA shits.
The Harry Potter Knockoff of his I read (Creation Mage), the protag had this feud with a random, and it was so bad that the other guy tried to kill him, then all of a sudden, they are the best of friends. The personality just did a 180 switch.

Utterly forgettable, the last two, I'm half-sure both had protagonists named Jake or Jack or something, and I don't even remember the girls or their names besides "there was a Russian girl in one". Aether Mage was just... Yeah, it felt like horny, poorly-characterised YA that had gratuitous sex scenes. There was at least an attempt at writing a story there, but it wasn't a good one.

The Big Waste is somewhat amateurishly written, but I the sex scenes and female character aren't bad, at least to me. I actually like it more than The Wild Wastes, which is much more popular, but to me cheapens sex too much and makes it grotesque, especially at the end. just finished The Sparrow. Overall I'd say I enjoyed it, maybe give it a 7/10. I genuinely enjoy religious lit and this book was very much more on the side of religious lit than it was sci-fi. all good themes: loss of faith, unknowability of God, road to Hell is paved with good intentions, etc etc. but man the supporting characters were borderline insufferable. Emilio, the main character, a Jesuit priest, was fine, but all the side characters he is with and their interactions felt completely fake. dinner table scenes where they are talking, when they are cooking, whatever you name it, it took me way out of the book. And the author's humor is not great. Now with all that said I am going to read Children of God, the sequel. Has anyone read it? Thoughts?

Well, to me 'special abilities' the protagonist in Wild Wasted had were just an excuse to make him special, there wasn't any real substance to it, so I just ignord it for coom. As for Big Waste, the protagonist is an excellent driver, who changed riding in tournaments to deliviring packages over post-apo wastelands, ala Mad Max. But other than his driving ability, he's a baseline human.

Pretty sad that few here read The Wandering Inn, today Volume 8 has finished, with the entire volume wordcount ending up at 2,725,101 words. A monumental achievement for Pirateaba, and the climax itself was so epic and intense that it would be enough for 2-3 average Epic Fantasy series. No other story would be able to set-up few volumes of events and characters, with their own arcs and journeys, just to engineer a climax that brings all of those plotlines and characters together in one grand finish, which can be said to end the first arc of the story. And to think we might be only halfway, or even 1/3 through the entire story. In a decade or more people will be mentioning TWI as one of the great Fantasy of this generation, if not of genre as a whole. Now a month of break, and then Volume 9 starts. I hope even a few people here will be able to look past their prejucide against webnovels and experience this amazing story themselves and not miss out on a story like none other.

I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. I've been enjoying it a lot.
The basic premise is that Aliens take over earth. For resources, yes, but mostly in order to run a reality TV program/death game, the Dungeon Crawl. The protagonist gets drawn into it when he wanders into a dungeon entrance chasing his girlfriends cat, wearing nothing but his undies. This book uses LitRPG elements, but it does it in a way that both makes sense and actually enhances the story - because it's literally not real, it's all part of the show. Even the enemies within the dungeon are literally just other aliens that have been abducted and set loose.
Seeing as the protagonist has entered the dungeon alone and unarmed with only a cat when most contestants are armed and in groups, the producers decide to even the odds a bit by making it so the Cat can talk. Her name is Donut.
Part of the gimmick here is that winning a battle isn't the actual win condition, contestants can get viewers and Patrons, so winning in a way that the audience likes might attract a wealthy patron or even an intergalactic corporate sponsorship, and an alien death game is a lot easier to beat when your corporate sponsor gifts you their brand new patented design of a Pulse Rifle.
Now with the LitRPG elements you'd be right to expect characters to get classes. But in this case the classes are things like Monster Truck Driver, Former Child Actor or Compensated Anarchist.

Also, the entire game is explicitly rigged. It's not meant to be winnable, and the producers do things like make it completely impossible for the protagonist to ever find any pants. Why? Because the viewers think it's funny. Also, as the announcer AI says, "Pussies don't get prizes".

A Journey of Black and Red - An extremely climatic vampire story with a female lead, set in nineteenth century America. The language and writing is historically appropriate, which makes it even better.

Perfect Run - A superhero story in which a person with a power that allows to go back in time to his Savepoint attempts to achieve a Perfect Run, starting over and over to achieve the best possible results, while also trying to find his old love. Funny, witty and enjoyable. Finished.

Never Die Twice - The same author as Perfect Run, relatively short book a Necromancer trying to abolish death and achieve immortality, set in Norse mythology setting. It's LitRPG, if that's a problem, but the protagonist is not some youngster rising in power, but already powerful Arch necromancer.

Vaienquar The Dragon - The same author as the two previous, but it's a parody of Isekai LitRPG, following a story of a Dragon and Isekaied loser who becomes the Dragon's minion, focused on humor and hilarity. If you don't like unserious stories, don't read. Finished.

Erogamer - If you liked Worth the Candle and Methods of Rationality, then you'll likely like this as well, it's even rumoured to be written by Yudkovsky. It's an extremely erotic story about a young, unattractive woman who's very into Japanese Erogame games, who suddenly gets a System. The main selling point of the story is rationality and the fact that the protagonist getting a System is treated with the seriousness an event like that deserves. It might be the best written webnovel on the internet, and I say that without a hint of irony. It's really THAT good.

Dungeon Crawler Carl - An extremely interesting take on LitRPG, even though it's actually a Sci-Fi story about Earth being destroyed and turned into a reality show for aliens, where surviving humans fight for survival in a giant dungeon to amusement of the galactic audience. Good humor, an interesting story. It was mentioned earlier in this thread with more elaborated description.

You know guys, the first book starts like an interesting story, then turns into a variation of Hunger Games, but with greek superhumans, only to change into something different in the second book.. It does sound bad at first, but it's really good. I read three books so far (I thought there are only three, have to re-read to continue, kek) and it's one of the better stories out there. I had chills at times, so there's that.

>greek superhumans
Red Rising isn't really fantasy, it's sci fi imo. The Golds are just humans who have been genetically modified and raised to be the peak of what's hummanly possible in terms of physical strength and mental acuity.

Funnily enough I loved the edge and Hunger Games aspect of the first book. Morning Star is where the story peaks imo, I wasn't able to get into the continuation trilogy as much as the first, but I think they're objectively decent if not good books.

Fuck I forgot few.

This Used to be About Dungeons - The same author as Worth the Candle, but about a time of dungeon delvers becoming a team. A comfy story about few people becoming a team, rather than an actual delving story, but that's in the title. Similar world-building to Worthe the Candle.

Paranoid Mage - A middle-aged architect and widower suddenly learns he's a mage, and an authoritarian magic government tries to catch him. The man starts learning about his spatial magic while running away, being as paranoid as possible to avoid detection. A recent big success on Royalroad, very popular. I don't think it's amazing, but it's a decent read.

Blue Core - The same author as Paranoid Mage, somewhat NSFW. LitRPG, a dungeon becomes self-aware and bonds with a fox girl, trying to defeats the rulers of evil dungeon by abusing the shit out of combining science and magic. You might not like it as it a bit haremy, but it's decent. Finished.

The Iron Teeth: A Goblin's Tale - Bandits raid a caravan which transported a goblin, one of the bandits take the goblin as a servant and teaches him. In time the goblin becomes a Hobgoblin and more or less strikes out on his own. As far as non-human protagonists go, this story is quite decent. The protagonist is something of an anti-hero, if not outright villain. Finished.
Honorable mentions:

Peculiar Soul - Haven't read personally, but a lot of people say good things about it.

Beware of Chicken - A parody of Xianxia, the protagonist gets beaten in a sect and decides to fitch the cultivation and defying the heavens to become a farmer. Very comfy and slice of life, one of the better webnovels.

Virtuous Sons: A Greco Roman Xianxia - A xianxia story, but in a greek setting. Cultiavators are Philosophers, Young Masters are Young Artisocrats. Aristotle and others are the biggest motherfuckers around. A something of a parody, the protagonists are a Young Aristocrat and an enslaved Roman Soldier.

The Calamity of a Reborn Witch - Haven't read, but supposedly good.

Forge of Destiny - A teenage thief girl passes a test to join a cultivation sect, very slice of life, although not the comfy kind. One of the better xianxias.

Sylver Seeker - An Archnecromancer Lich dies while defending his family and magic academy from some sort of madman, without explanation returns to 'life' unknown period of time later, with a silver needle being his phylactery of sorts. And the worst of all, the world is now governed by some sort of LitRPG system, which punishes him for not adhering to its rules. Decent story.

Super Minion - A very comfy superhero story about a runaway science experiment who pretends to be a human. No longer updated, probably will never be finished, but what's there is quite fun. One of the better webnovels, a shame the writer no longer works on it.

Zach was never popular, he only got a degree of being cool after he got his muder waifu. The story would be much better if the author made him more likeable, but honestly readers are always leaning towards edgy protagonists rather than heroic ones. Now we have muh 'reverse' situation where it's Zach who's mad and Ryun becoming normal, to a degree.
Infinity Realms is a good story, one of the better litrpg systems desu, but the author just wasn't up to the challenge of executing such an ambitious story.

It gets some good points for having a black protagonist though, I know many black people whine about a nigga never being anyone important in fantasy. Just allow a nigga to be a hero or knight ffs.

I keep meaning to read this, but genuinely the fact that the protagonist is named Zach is throwing me off because I've just read Defiance of the Fall, the protag of which is named Zac, and it'd feel weird to read two LitRPG series with similar-named protags so close together. I'd worry they'd blend together in my mind (not that Zac from DotF is much of a character, admittedly, he's just... There).

I liked this series, it's about a powerful mage who died a long time ago and then reincarnated 1 500 years later into the body of a 15 yo noble, the premise is quite generic and so are the power fantasy elements, but for some reason it's really enjoyable to binge through, the progression never halts and the civilization management aspect is also nice, I also find the world building to be well done
I think if someone is in the mood to read a power fantasy isekai then this is the most enjoyable series I can think of

I'm on volume 3 and while I like the larger political plot and the metaphysical stuff with the dead gods returning the principal main plot of Erin and co's slice of life hijinks simply isn't compelling enough for me to want to wade through it to get to the interesting stuff. The story absolutely reinvents itself later on, volume 4 is basically the end of the prologue. I personally didn't even like Erin before Volume 5. There is less slice of life, or rather the slice of life is different, more important to the story most of the time. The last volume 8 that has just been finished, caused a lot of whining in some people due to near lack of Slice-of-life elements, it had extreme focus on plot. If you already like TWI, then you will love the later volumes.
Trust me, Volume 3 is just the lower point in the series, starting from V4 the scope gets bigger and stakes larger, slowly changing TWI from Fantasy slice of life into Epic Fantasy. And it also gets massively better.

I didn't have any problems reading APGTE or MoL, but Worm felt like a slog, so TWI is staying on the TBR until I get into a binge-reading mood.

>Should've just wrote something new
It's not changing completely, just the proportions start to lean towards Epic Fantasy. And to say it's a story about running an Inn isn't quite describing what TWI is, the main character is an Inkeeper, but the Inn at some point become an important geopolitical center with relations to multiple city states and kingdoms. As for the slice of life, it's different in the later volumes than the earlier ones, in V2 you'd have an entire chapter dedicated to something slice of life about the Inn (still in a fantasy way and very compelling), but in later volumes the same chapter would also include part of some character's arc and include parts of other plots so that the final result is almost like a story in itself. To call it simple 'slice of life' would be a disservice to the story.

Good cover, Peake always describes Titus as having a weird looking face. Anyway the second book is more focused than the first, and it separates out the dark parts and the comedic parts more strongly while also amplifying them. Dunno if that appeals to you. You can also take its ending as the ending of the series. The third book is weird but mostly coherent and has some good scenes but it doesn't hang together all that well and needed some more work to be truly finished.

People who write, especially those who write fantasy, tend to have the least sex. It's rare that someone actually has the capacity to write sex well because it's simply too outside of their experience. Actually, a lot of people write things they don't know about, like war etc. in a bad way, but that experience is not common enough to be pointed out by the readers, meanwhile sex is something almost anyone has.

most authors of webnovels tend to interact with their readers from chapter to chapter so it helps with pacing and progression, I do think they're becoming the better format for fantasy & sci-fi today, but they still need editors even on a small weekly scale

That's to be expected though, considering they put up a schedule for new updates.

More enjoyable if you are a zoom zoom, also they tend to have more creative premises and worldbuilding. You never know what you're going to get in terms of quality, which adds to the fun/pain. Sometimes authors are obviously out of their depth, but then sometimes you get a well crafted and planned out story that varies far from what tradtionally gets published.

The actual webnovel isn't actually this btw, it's just a misconstrued interpretation of events to make the protagonist seem like an unhinged psycho

I feel like most longer novels could benefit from a few editing passes.
I've read good novels ranging from: introducing a peerless beauty who was narrated that she's a vegetarian, cut to a hundred chapters later, and she is eating meat.
To just having the currency/barter system not make much sense over the course of the novel.
