If I really need to concentrate, I don't listen to anything, but if I'm just casually reading about history or poetry, or when I'm writing, this is my go to. It's probably my favorite record.

Truman show soundtrack by the same name you posted OP. Nothing really distracts me or I would agree with anon here>>20317318
I listen to various traditional and contemporary styles. For traditional its mostly classical, baroque, and ancient music. For contemporary I have an even wider variety. Psychedelic rock, alternative rock, metal, jazz, funk, and funk-metal makes up the majority of my music archive. I'll listen to anything as long as it fits the mood.

I prefer to do one thing at a time. Music often detracts from books, and reading detracts from the music.

That being said, Glassworks slaps. I also like a lot of jazz - New Crystal Silence and Blue Camel (Rabih-Abou Khalil) have gotten a lot of listens lately.

I lean toward Debussy/Ravel when I’m reading, but I recently discovered this and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit:

Hard blues rock, jazz, or just blues. a moment when i could, but am not listening to music is a moment wasted. It does slow down the reading sometimes though for example on a particularly good solo I have to put the book down for a min and then try and pick up again

reading evokes emotion and thought
music evokes emotion and thought

doing the two at the same time seems disrespectful, if not distracting.
research shows studying while listening to music is counter-productive.
bet that reading while listening to music results in less "deep reading", if any.

That being said I can go from shit like Rotten Sound and Phobia to Borknagar and Marduk to Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus to Tygers Of Pan Tang and Grim Reaper to non metal like Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads, Controlled Bleeding, Test Dept. and all sorts of prog like Can, Faust, Univers Zero, Henry Cow to even jazz like Albert Alyer, Charles Mingus, Return To Forever, Sonny Sharrock, and classical ranging from Carlo Gesualdo to Karlheinz Stockhausen and various punk and hardcore bands from early stuff like The Dead Boys (Stiv Bators was born near me) and The New York Dolls to the hard-core sound of Minor Threat, Youth Of Today, Agnostic Front and Gorilla Biscuits. I even like ambient and harsh noise music.

i feel like they treat these names as branding, it's the name and the image that matters, like it's supposed to make you the anon appear in a favorable light for purpose of getting applause from others... I'm convinced few people here or there like things for themselves—as if i were declaring: BEHOLD my fave classical *smirk*, or should i say baroque, records, pretty big-brained and sophisticated, right?...*booing, heckling* NOOOO these are basic... mainstream... where's the obscure no wave... where's the ecleticism... where's the provocative poptimism... no Chief Keef... no Carly Rae Jespen... no Whitehouse?????

I said reading about poetry, anon, as in reading biographies or criticism or histories. But also sometimes I casually read poetry. Not all poetry needs close scrutiny to be appreciated, and especially if its poetry which I've already read and studied many times before.
