Do you like your university's library?

>> No.2031393

Yes, because it's so much better than any of the public libraries, and free of homeless people.

>> No.2031405

Penn State has an incredible library. I love it so much.

>> No.2031414

Yes. it's fucking amazing.

>> No.2031425

Yeah I do. One of our libraries (UBC) has a robotic system so you don't have to go hunting in the stacks.

>> No.2031426

Yes, because we have two.

One is full of the textbook you need to pass the courses, the other's for the people who actually give a shit about what they're studying. In the former, you can talk as much as you want and eat. I the latter, it's silence with no food to prevent damage to the older books.

Guess which one I use.

>> No.2031436

Yes.

When it comes to literature, it's pure shit, but it has more movies than the Library of Congress, so I'm never bored.

>> No.2031439

no its full of idiots and it's rarely quiet

>>2031425
but....hunting the the stacks is when you find a bunch of other interesting books while looking for the one you actually set out to look for.

>>2031447
Yeah, I was just going to say that. I've found a lot of cool shit, both for educational and personal use, just getting lost in the book shelves.

Still a neat sounding system, care to explain how it works?

>> No.2031676

There are 46 different libraries on campus, and I use 2 of them. One is fucking massive and the other is just really quiet. Love them both.

You submit a request for a book over the internet, from your laptop or public PC or whatever, then a robot arm thing takes your book out of the stacks, and you pick it up from a service desk. I haven't actually seen the machine at work, I'm assuming it looks something like pic related.

This. There's a black college near where I live. I work in HR and I have a lot of applicants who go there. I never hire anyone from that college because none of them can write worth shit. Many of them talk in double negatives or use made up words during a fucking job interview. I am sorry, but if you want a respectable job with your agency you are going to have to throw away your black "attitude" and act civilized.

someone give me eleven million dollars to make this. is nick cannon doing anything next month?

if aliens came to earth and asked me to present them with one product of our culture that'd convince them not to blow up this godforsaken planet i'd show them 'to wong foo'

and they'd be like "this is deeply, deeply flawed and pretty much objectively terrible, but i found myself charmed and entertained by it despite myself"

and i'd be like "that's earthling society in a nutshell, guys!"

and we'd all laugh and go out for Bud Lights

My campus has a bunch of libraries. Of the two that I actually use: the first is massive and brutalist and dull, but it is quiet and it also has an absurdly large collection, which is nice. The second is very pretty and great for reading or writing papers. Unfortunately, they've changed it from the way it used to be. It used to be cool and dark, with a few tables and some nice arm-chairs and a bunch of books. No one ever went there because it was so dimly-lit and quiet, and I absolutely loved it. Now they moved the books and added a bunch of chairs and made the place all pleasant, and it's always fucking crowded. Jesus.

Ugh, it's so terrible isn't it? I mean, I love that there's a massive resource of free knowledge and entertainment available to the general public sitting a mere 15 minutes from my house... but knowing that you could be off somewhere else - somewhere bigger, somewhere better. It's somewhat ungrateful, I suppose, but damn.

I'm from Los Angeles. The public libraries here are essentially overrun with homeless people. They go in there and jizz on the computers and take facet showers in the bathrooms. Even the beautiful central library (where my grandmother used to work back in the 50s) has a fair homeless population using it.

As much as I love libraries, the public ones can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I have no idea why the city pays for all the libraries to have computers anyways. It's a library, not a computer lab. All the people who are doing important writing or research have access to University libraries anyways.
