Kerouac is interesting only because of his actual character in reference to his works. He is the unfortunate epitome of "Yeah it's just spirituality, man! Live your life! I'm Bhuddist!"

He literally chose his Buddhist lifestyle because it was a distant Eastern religion with no commitments or community for him, just an idea he could play with and justify his reckless life cosmically.

By the time he was 40ish, he was a completely bloated, broke, wet-brained alcoholic pining for his Catholicism. He was the true experiment of "God is dead" on Western culture, and he died regretting every minute of it.

It's sad because things peak through Kerouac the man and his literature that are actually worth looking at, but instead he kind of sold himself as our experiment, which we're currently living through now that New Atheism is collapsing and intellectuals are rushing to reconstruct God as distant and uncaring.
