Balzac may get a pop revivial from the recent Lost Illusions movie if it becomes a Netflix or Tiktok meme

for one, he wrote lots of stuff so people don't know where to begin, there isn't much consensus on him besides pere goriot being his most famous work.
another things is people outside frogland find him obsolete compared to all the french authors who came after him so they just skip him and read hugo, flaubert, proust, etc.
lots of people here will tell you to trash him and read zola instead

personally i think he's a master and very comfy, i've yet to read something bad or worthless from him. it's nice always having a handy balzac story to dive into.

>> No.20271637

Because he's a freemason dog and J.K. Huysmans is the writer he wishes he could've been but didn't have the capacity

I always consider Balzac and Zola to be formulaic writers. They have Goriot and Germinal respectively, but most of their massive output is just okay, but still worth reading.

Just run it through google translate, there's option for whole document. It won't be 100% accurate, some results can be pure comedy, but it will be about the same as if you studied the language at home for reading alone.

Who isn't a freemason and is also a published author before the 20th century? I'd really like to know.
