It's okay to have some projects flop. I've released four books and haven't broken even for my efforts yet, despite having sold hundreds of copies. (I wanted to do things really professionally but ended up sinking too much into the design work/illustrations, among other things). The important thing is that you're trying, anon. Just make sure to continuously work on your craft so that you don't stagnate. Also, work on other projects on the side. I regularly submit to poetry magazines as a way of taking my mind off my larger works. Godspeed.

You're probably overthinking it. My smut isn't clever it just goes for the action with minimal plot but I've sold tens of thousands.
