Humans evolved to have Gods to worship and believe in. Whether it was used to control society or to have shared communal values is up for debate. One thing is for sure, the belief of a God does affect the state of living for people for the better. Whether there is a physical real God does not make a difference in how it impacts their life. 1. Scientific development already started to stall somewhere between 200 and 100 bc.

2. Greek chauvinism prevented adopting for example Babylonian mathematics.
