I was a little but slow as a kid, but I caught up pretty quick once I finally figured it out. I couldn't read until I was 9 years old. When I was 13 years old, my favourite book was Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, which I read in it's entirety, including the endnotes.

Wayside School books. Hilarious. My favorite story is the new kid in class who stinks and wears a bunch of coats. One by one the class takes the coats off and it turns out to be a dead rat. Blew my mind as a kid.

This - which I still have and dip in and out of from time to time. It set off a life long love of ancient myths and stories, which I think genuinely taught me a lot of lessons growing up that aren't necessarily taught in schools nowadays - the value of physical strength, bravery, wisdom over cunning. When I have children they will all get bought up with the same myths and legends.

I read Christine, for the first time in year 5, (or 6 maybe?), in primary school.
Favorite book for quite a while after that, and reread it twice more, in the next couple of years.
Saw the movie first, because I came from that generation, before anyone took movie ratings seriously.
The book was heaps better though...

i loved the discworld books. i read like 20 of them (which is how many were written at at that time) and they were my absolute life and formed my sense of humour to a degree. and then i grew up and moved onto other books etc
but consequently i have this weird thing where i'm fond of terry pratchett, but also when i encounter adults who are reading him i think they must be manchildren reading kid's books and scorn them even though they're reading stuff i love

When I see an adult reading YA books I generally reserve judgement as much as possible until I know what else they read because sometimes I do the same out of nostalgia. I say "generally" because if the person in question is a balding skinnyfat basedboy with painted nails and pop culture tattoos wearing a Rick and Morty t-shirt then I feel like that gives me plenty to go on.
