Why are you so angry? The closest thing this book has to an overarching purpose is that it all seems like you’re trying to rationalize or intellectualize this rage you feel. It’s this weird circular logic where rage is both the book’s premise and conclusion. And sure, many people feel instinctive aversion to homosexuality, and brighter traditionalist thinkers would use that to make some kind of natural law argument. But this book goes beyond that, and it comes across as completely pathological. You come across as a repressed and self-hating queer.

I’m not going to assume this is the case, but it seems like you’re unhappy. You should read Herman Hesse’s Steppenwolf. Our time is similar to the Weimar Republic’s in that rapid technological change, economic disappointment, and social dislocation have produced a new cohort of angry young men. Steppenwolf was Hesse’s response to them: you’d be happy to scourge yourself for thousands of years, but you’ve got to learn to live. You’ve got to learn to laugh.
