I recently started reading Lord of the Flies; and will soon move onto The Scarlet Letter.
So, any suggestions?

>> No.2022775

are you serious?

>> No.2022783

I just skimmed Perks of Being a Wallflower and I found it to be the worst book I have ever set eyes on, I'm so glad I stole it on the internet.
So, is OP a faggot?

>> No.2022784

I suggest you get through sophomore year. 15 is an important year.

Yes indeed

>>2022783
I read the summary, wasn't particularly impressed; and my name is WallflowerGirl, because I am female and a bit shy. Also; I'm bisexual, so I suppose I am a 'faggot' as you so eloquently put it.

>>2022784
I'm going to be 14 in a few days, and a Freshman in a week or so.

Wow, way underage b&, what books have you read recentl.... well I guess at your age you can probably list every book you've read thus far in your entire life for that matter lol.

Most of the people who post here are English Majors in college and don't like discussing high school level junk.

/lit/'s being trolled, and obviously.

/lit/ sucks shit, but that's harsh.

If you have a high enough reading level, I'd suggest you get a head start on Kafka and Camus. They'll both be important in English II.

What the hell? i didnt write this!

>>2022883
Also; that was kind of harsh; I honestly hope all adults are not like you. I get annoyed by people who underestimate me, and assume teenagers aren't competent enough to ask for some book titles. That is, in fact, why I came here. To find new reading material. Nearly randomly picking books off of library shelves isn't a very good method.
Also; If I tried, I'd be here for an hour or two at least.

Seems like this is all of /lit/ on some days.

I'm 15, and I found that pretentious. Calm yourself. At your age, you don't know shit about literature.

>> No.2022923

>>2022917
samefag as this

anyway, I recommend to not bother with the scarlet letter, you'll probably have to read it for class someday anyway.

I loved the great gatsby, death of a salesman, grapes of wrath, and monkey wrench gang.

all pretty entry level stuff, but it's all pretty good imo, and a good primer in general.

>> No.2022925

>>2022923
I hardly think a book should be considered entry level because it has clear, concise writing. This emphasis on complexity leads to pretentious bullshit.

ohh.. A year older, really? Well excuse me for trying to learn; i like literature.
This is the last time I put my age, sex, race or anything that can be misconstrued as trolling on 4chan.

Les Miserables - Victor Hugo

The Brothers Karamazov (Crime and Punishment, first) - Fyodor Dostoevsky

The Elephant Keeper - Christopher Nicholson

Number9Dream - David Mitchell

Out Backward - Ross Raisin

Animal Farm - George Orwell

The Garden of Eden - Ernest Hemingway

The Stranger - Albert Camus

All the Living - C.E. Morgan

Fire in the Blood - Some bitch whose name I forhget

The titles that you don't immediately recognize are books that will, in 50 years, if the "literary world" is just, which it is not, be looked back upon as classics of our generation. I threw in some well known writers and titles in there as well simply because I know most of you faggots don't actually enjoy reading but prefer to simply cultivate as many classic works of literature into your reading history so to flaunt it about later when all your social resources have failed you and your belief in literature prompts you to act superior for having read a work that others haven't.

tl;dr

Good list. Read all of it. Enjoy.

Animal Farm is my second favorite book, second to Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

I'm glad you like reading, but it really seems that you're in it for the precociousness and "quirky" factor.

>> No.2022961

Only read Scarlet Letter if you have to. It's good, but there are better by Hawthorne. Look into The House of the Seven Gables and his short stories.

Also, Heller's Catch-22,

Moore's Watchmen (Fuck you, it's an awesome graphic novel),

and for sure (repeating) Hugo's Les Miserables.

Those should keep you busy.

>> No.2022984

>>2022959
Would you believe me if I said no? I guess those just come with it, but I read because my life was very dull and lonely in my earlier childhood; and I haven't stopped reading yet, and don't plan on it.

>>2022961
Thank, helpful. Although I don't usually read graphic novels.

>> No.2023000

>>2022984
That's cool and all that you're being ambitious and into literature, just keep in mind that some books may actually be too mature for you because their material requires you to have adult experience and above-highschool-level education to appreciate.

On that note, you should go out and buy Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon, I'm sure you'll love to have it in your arsenal of "books I've read."

>> No.2023448

>>2022783
Agreed. Supposedly it's the new Catcher in the Rye, but it just seems to be supporting middle class effeminacy and general self-pitying.

There's a thread about it on here at the moment but I din't noko (sadface icon which is then mocked by future posters)

Still couldn't be as bad as Wild Animus.
