I think you've been duped. I definitely overrated BM for years. I reread it recently and was shocked. The Road and The Orchard Keeper are absolutely higher quality. Blood Meridian is goofy as hell. It goes from laugh out loud bad to simple cringe and eye rolling.

The book My Confession: The Recollections of a Rogue is back in print. You can pull it off libgen if you're interested. It has McCarthy's sources for Holden, which were basically inaccessible until 2019. There wasn't much invention around the character, Chamberlain describes the same guy, a number of the same scenes.

They sat in silence for some time, gazing out at the tortillas and haciendas and coal miners, niggerblack from coaldust. The expriest Tobin opened his exbible and sang some exhymns. Glanton spat. They ate a dinner of cornmeal and bacon fat fried in a cast iron pan the Judge forged in a furnace made from one of the mexican’s skulls, bleached white now made niggerblack from the coals. Paperback books are usually at least $10 nowadays, and in many cases $15-$20.
Why not spend a bit extra for a copy of a book, that is printed on higher quality, likely acid free paper, possibly with a sewn binding?
A lot of the Everyman’s Library and Library of America editions have more than one book.
Purchasing the current paperback copies of something like Ellroy’s L.A. Quartet, is more expensive than purchasing the single hardback EL edition that contains all 4 books.
The EL is also printed on nice acid free paper, with a pleasant sewn binding, and cloth covers, and a ribbon book-marker, which is admittedly, a bit short for the 1400- pages of the book.

Also, glued paperbacks in my experience will fall apart after a decade or two in many cases.

There's a cunt hair's chance. They hosted that public vote on titles to release for their anniversary. We don't know which book won, and they haven't said more than that it would become a FS title - but they could be doing something special for the occasion. Even their LEs are seldom letterpress though.

Suntup couldn't snag signatures from Cormy either (not that anyone will) which is a dent in the status of the volume.

And just in case you haven't seen it already there's a LOTR related volume due for release the 20th. It's guaranteed to be twice as expensive the second it sells out.
