Wikipedia rarely seems to list influences that were influences in the "negative" sense ie by disagreement with them. People also call way too many influences. I've read some stuff from Wittgenstein I agree with or find personally interesting but by that formula, nearly everyone would be an influence. Influences should narrow down to a maximum of 3-4 names that inform the entire intellectual's project. In my case, I am only interested in Christianity vis-a-vis "The World". What interests me specifically is the opposition between Christians and "The World" as mentioned in the NT and as observed by my own eyes, these two large overarching forces, The Gospel in one corner and The World in the other are incompatible with eachother. In that sense the three most interesting strains are Christian texts and intellectuals, Nietzsche who is the champion of The World and Marxism which is inverted Christianity a social/material utopia and in that respect ultimately of The World. Of course the network of useful ideas is much wider than that but in the large sense it can be narrowed down to these three ideas. Intellectually this is what interests me as the ultimate question. But tangentially of course you could list numerous additions, now I am reading a business book and it is peculiar how the very process of creating a product/service already explicitly presupposes targeting man's desire for money, social status, excitement, sensual desire, protection etc. as key drivers of purchase. In that sense as is obvious to anyone the economy itself is already functioning according to principles of "the world" by causing a self-propagating loop of enslavement of man to idols or vice. Of course the author makes no moral judgement about it nor likely has any metaphysical thought about it whatsoever, but it is precisely this that makes it interesting, the hyper-optimization towards idolization and self-enslavement in consumers in an environment of hierarchical competition, that gets, by economic necessity and by unrestrained economic freedom, evermore, for the lack of better term, degenerate and paradoxically anti-social, yet somehow man's limited lifespan prevents him from ever learning this or acting against it, an impossibility maybe now that the cat is out of the bag already. Of course some quite happily exist within these conditions with no respect towards any communal feeling or longevity and sustainability beyond themselves.

idk mine would be pretty normal...
Nietzsche, Freud, Lacan, Foucault, Butler...

I mean I've read a lot of authors in a variety of places but these are the ones who I have any depth of understanding...

I guess I got really into Yoga, Hinduism, Eastern philosophy in general, but I don't have as great an understanding of that I think, just the language. I'd really like to study the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavad Purana, Lankavantra Sutra in depth. I'd also like to improve my Greek to the point where I can easily read Plato, Aristotle, Xenophone etc., and then learn Latin so I can read scholastic philosophy. The trouble with these modern "theorists" is their complete lack of historical philosophical understanding, they don't read anything written before the 18th century except Spinzo and Descartes, Plato and Aristotle, as if 2000 years of Philosophy simply vanished...

Yet more proof that "ethics" is a scam. People don't make decisions based on logic, but on emotion. Stop studying ethics, start studying psychology. When people use big words to describe muh morals and ethics, they're just providing post facto reasoning for "this makes me feel sad ;(" and "this makes me feel happy :)". It's all bullshit. That's my point. Ethics isn't real. It doesn't exist outside of books and philosophy classrooms. True ethics doesn't even appear in movies which is for better or worse where people actually derive their moral frameworks. Ethical philosophy only matters to ethical philosophers. People just have Pavlovian responses implanted in their brains by propaganda and respond to stimuli in predictable ways. Ethics is worthless for anything.

Marx is remembered as a schizophrenic. Anyone who cosiders his vomit philosophy has mental issues. Economics is not philosophy, social science is not philosophy, schizophrenia is not philosophy. I don't care how many "Marxist philosophers" academia shits out, they're just social critics and terrible at it too.

I hear your plea, my child, so I shall respond: Jarry, Baudelaire, Bataille, Lefebvre, Rilke, Ellul, Lovelock (to name a few). Accompanying music should be either Schoenberg or Current 93.
Joking aside, despite my nihilist/pessimist leanings I believe the only real antidote to philosophical pessimism - and the world in general - is the Deleuzian "crowned anarchist", but I'm personally too far gone.

Heraclitus didn't write enough shit to be influential. It was more like these guys had there ideas and then read about Heraclitus (or already knew of him) and thought, "hey that sounds like what I said in a way but it was said by someone 2600 years ago therefore it's like ancient wisdom n shit."

Saying "X influenced Hegel" is literally meaningless. Hegel is the historical-sense philosopher par none. He is "influenced" by literally every philosopher he could get his hands on at that time. He is the STI-ridden whore of philosophers.
