20140115 No.20140115 [Reply] [Original]

>I hesitate to give advice because every major single piece of advice I was given turned out to be wrong and I am glad I didn't follow them. I was told to focus and I never did. I was told to never procrastinate and I waited 20 years for The Black Swan and it sold 3 million copies. I was told to avoid putting fictional characters in my books and I did put in Nero Tulip and Fat Tony because I got bored otherwise. I was told to not insult the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, the more I insulted them the nicer they were to me and solicit op-eds. I was told to avoid lifting weights for a back pain and became a weightlifter: never had a back problem since. If I had to relive my life I would be even more stubborn and uncompromising than I have been. One should never do anything without skin in the game. If you give advice, you need to be exposed to losses from it.

Whoa... there is hope for /lit/izens after all....

Nobody posting on this board has "skin in the game." In reality, he got lucky.

Didn't Wittgenstein already gives this advice like 60 years ago? Why does this Arab think he is novel?

He doesn't have a busy schedule. He likes "looking like" he has a busy schedule. Its a subtle difference. He's not some valuable asset to a community of researchers. He's a lecturer.

He doesn't. His whole schtick is that he's repeating ancient wisdom that the bureaucratic establishment (or as he calls them IYI) should already know.
He's basically the equivalent of
>Oh you Zappa, yeah, you should really listen to the Synaclaiver stuff man. That's the real experimental shit

>> No.20140563

Does nobody notice that he is giving advice to us without himself having any "skin in the game?"

Does nobody not see that all the advice he has taken, such as to brush his teeth or to not walk in traffic WAS useful?

Does nobody not realize that these assholes are only doing it for the money, and that any real advantage they keep to themselves?
