My favorite writers are Plato, Plutarch, Montaigne, Shakespeare, Goethe, Rousseau, William Blake, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Recommend me some other writers to read.

If you like William Blake and want something more contemporary/modern, I'd recommend Jay Macpherson, a Canadian poet who studied under Northrop Frye and was immensely influenced by Blake. Pic related is a sample of one of her poems

For prose Thomas Browne, Melville, William James, Plotinus, and Tolstoy. For poetry try Petrarch, Chaucer, Coleridge, Yeats, Spenser, and Shelley. For plays try Moliere, Ibsen, and some of Shakespeare’s contemporaries (Jonson, Marlowe, Kyd). Old Latin authors like Ovid and Horace might be right up your alley too. Happy reading
