Women are dumbasses who for the most part their first priority is social harmony above even truth.
She basically sees in her son a social trouble brought on by the fact he is smarter than everyone else and he is driven to pursue intelectual pursuits even if it were to piss off and alienate his friends.

It basically comes to the point that Schopenhaur is dealing the NPCs of his day who just want to consume and be comfortable and his mother is saying that for the sake of family wealth and personal prosperity Schopenhaur should tow the line and if hes going to educate people he should do so within the lines of their mediocre/simple minds.

She doesnt understand that her son was driven by intelectual pursuits above all else and to sacrifice that vision and development would cause him psychological harm.

I think ultimately if you are an intelligent man you should never let a woman tell you how to behave or how to think because women are not great thinkers.

Is the letter that was in reply to anywhere to read? It honestly sounds like she was just tired of him being a depressing fuck that only could interact with others by way of self-denigration. At the very least it sounds like the kind of exasperated rebuttal to a wave of self-loathing I'm used to getting when I push someone past their point of tolerance for that sort of behavior.
