The fact that Gravity's Rainbow, a meme book for acerbic academic DSA members, is still looked at fondly by this board on the CHUD website is undeniable evidence that nobody has read it. The Facebook conspiracy infographics tier postulation that "the nazis be running the big NGOs and sheet. Also they'z be the CIA. and they'z gay pedo trannies" is disguised by numerous other side plots containing themes similar to the possible topics discussed in some literary 'blog' headed by pic-related, post-colonial trauma, MK-ultra conditioning of the populace, interpretations of Hegel by the soviets, et cetera. Pynchon's appeal to a base puritan American arcehtype is contradicted by the fruits of his own stream of consciousness growing into redundant mounds of tenuous analogy to mystic hermeneutic wahoo (look at any usage of the word "gnostic" in the book) or forgotten pieces of archaic pop-culture. This piling on of "intelligent" references may have been slightly pleasing if it was not encased in a book written by the mentally deranged prurient Thomas Pynchon. The non-stop impassioned description of disgusting, scatological, visceral (as in gore), decadent sexual scenarios seems to be a reach for brine encased academics to shout "YES! He gets it! This is the real world! The dialectic is progressed through fisting of prolapsed anuses". This moronic semi-homosexual worldview is topped off by some of the antagonistic characters of the book receiving their "comeuppance" through sexual humiliation (the castration of the major who hunts Slothrop. Pointsman being urinated on) a dramatic structure similar to the resigned pejoratives spouted by a woman when placed into an online argument. The whole book is on the level of "2020 trollface comic edit but... get this... he morphs into some ouroboros monster and calls hecking consumerism the new Babylon (this is funny but also SO TRUE)". complete petty moralism.
The jokes are also usually extremely redditly (contrast of serious subject matter with sarcastic reference. Amounts to a screaming of "I am witty". "I wrote a full length song about having down syndrome and huffing gasoline".) imo.

Sorry for any scarcity in the post's content. It's been awhile since I've read the book or used this board, I merely wanted to express frustration.

I don't really see the appeal of maximalist American pomo novels. They make for some fun entertainment, but they're ultimately too gimmicky and lacking in substance to be worth the effort they require.

Agreed. That's why the best Pynchon novels are the ones that no one is talking about and are the most underappreciated
