Rap is music, and the qualities that make rapping good musically often take away from its quality as poetry. The kind of rhyming and alliteration you see in rap which are necessary to make spoken words musical, make it terrible to read.

What white people don't understand about Rap is that it's essentially closed off to non-rap fans. Wordplay, rhyme schemes and flow are basically foreign to non-rap fans and that's the main criteria use to judge rap. I never said it was easy. Just that it can be good music, but that it is bad poetry. The style of rhyming and the wordplay are obnoxious when taken out of its musical context.
