I want to read fiction like Star Trek. Novels about exploring space and solving problems intelligently.

>Novels about exploring space and solving problems intelligently.
But they don't really solve problems intelligently on Star Trek, they just follow a moral imperative or do what feels right or pick the scientific theory which suits the situation.

By intelligently I meant more like they don't solve every problem by shooting it automatically like in Star Wars or 40k

>solving problems intelligently

"Captain, our standard root command subspace combadge is collapsing due to disturbances in the ablative distribution net!"

>one hour later

"Good thinking Mr LaForge, we'll use variances in the nucleonic transporter sustainer to reroute the power via the subspace grid sub-routines to the matter-antimatter subspace analyzer."

>data takes bon mot literally, shot of the Enterprise flying away

>solving problems intelligently

And I say this as someone who venerates trek

The Foundation series might do you, they are not exactly exploring space but they solve every problem with pseudo science and dictate their lives by that pseudo science and use it as proof that they are morally superior to the ones that do not follow their pseudo science. A fair amount of it is in space.
