I have to give this book credit because it’s one of the few that have become successful that aren’t just “fuck white people and fuck cops”. Obviously, it’s going to focus on the narrative from the perspective of a victim of racism and police misconduct/bad training. And it of course fails to address some of the causes of the problem of black men getting bodied by cops. But it does address some, and at least shows SOME of the reason why cops discriminate and SOME of the frustration and impossible positions cops have to face.

Basically, don’t lump it in with other “fuck white people” literature. It’s better than that, despite its flaws. Also, yeah the prose is annoying, but it’s written specifically to appeal to middle schoolers. What did you expect?
