Yes, it's that time of months again, I'm gearing up to buy a nice big batch of books off Amazon. Please tell me what you think, if anything, of the following books. I'm looking to buy 10, I only have 7 'candidates' so far, so feel free to suggest some others.

Death In The Andes – Mario Vargas Llosa
The Storyteller – Mario Vargas Llosa
The Autumn of the Patriarch – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Skating Rink – Roberto Bolano
Oracle Night – Paul Auster
The Tent – Margaret Atwood
The Stories of Eva Luna – Isabel Allende

I'm so tired of reading, so tired. But I keep reading good books inbetween all the bad or okay but stale ones, so I keep going. I dunno. Some days I wonder what the hell I'm doing.

I know how /lit/ feels about my obsession with Atwood, and my mini-obsession with Llosa, but I want to read more by them. Between those authors, I've read almost 25 books.

Because I'm on a book board asking for advice on books I might buy? Hey, I've refrained from a page by page commentary on the last 2 books I've read.

I'm okay with someone obsessing for Atwood and Llosa. But not for Allende.

Thumbs up for 'The Storyteller' and 'The Autumn of the Patriarch'.

What's your point?

I just think Allende, and her style, are great. That whole detached style, covering a lot of time and with hardly any dialogue, is good stuff. If I read TSOEL, I will have read all of her adult books. I have no idea if her short stories are good or bad. I think I'll like them, but I'm not sure.
