Nah. Sorry. I'm much more into the creature horror subgenre of splatterpunk. Not so much human v. human stuff- but when I'm skimming the Goodreads lists there's a lot of "hooker has to survive a snuff film" and "family becomes cannibals" kind of thing.

Thanks for the help, bro. I realized after reading American psycho that this is the gente for me. It’s fun and easy to enjoy. But I’m not interested in the traditional forms of horror…

just look through the lists; I'm sure you'll find something. There's a reason they're under splatterpunk and not just straight up horror. I'm not a big horror fan myself, actually.

Edward Lee - The Bighead and Header
Aron Beauregard - The Slob
Daniel J. Volpe - Talia, Left to You
Bryan Smith - Depraved
Wrath James White - The Resurrectionist
Richard Laymon - One Rainy Night, The Beast House

Its worth remembering that although Lee is extremely influential in extreme horror, he's also prolific. Aside from the two notorious ones I've recommended, hes done a lot of more commercial, conventional horror - as has Brian Keene. Depends on what you're after. Volpe and Beauregard are new to the scene but are both making big waves. White is a contemporary of Lee and Keane, as depraved as Lee. There's plenty I can recommend you.

Give me some themes I can dig through my collection.

I'm sure you'd appreciate Hogg by Samuel Delany, it's ridiculously over the top. Check out the Wikipedia article to get a sense of what's in there. Unlike Bret Easton Ellis though, Samuel Delany is actually a good author, and so once you're done with Hogg you can pick up Dhalgren and enjoy that

Personally, what resonated with me most about American Psycho was the misanthropic sentiment and absurd acts of violence that didn’t involve what I presume are the cliches of the horror genre. Self-admittedly, I haven’t read much horror because I’m not really into the Halloween themed words the authors create. I want something that “could” happen in real life or something that’s not completely out to lunch on some fantasy/beings from another galaxy.

>> No.20006016

>>20005994
Yeah, Hogg would completely be up your alley then. It is over the top in its violence, but no more so than American Psycho. Definitely feels like a real world rather than anything that would fit into a standard horror movie

>Hogg
Dude, 2nd this. Hogg is amazing and so much more over the top even compared to something like American Psycho. I'm happy to see it mentioned here.
>Unlike Bret Easton Ellis though, Samuel Delany is actually a good author, and so once you're done with Hogg you can pick up Dhalgren and enjoy that
kek, true. Dhalgren is my favorite of his from what I've read and one of my favorite novels in general.
