Every option that is't Add Book, Convert Book and Read Book is a waste of my fucking time.

Basically if you read up closer than you need to, your eyes will get weaker because they aren't being challenged. You should try to read with the text a little bit further away than you want to.

i have never found a pdf organiser/viewer that does exactly what i want. i guess eventually i'll just have to write one myself.

Don't launch Calibre from the icon named Calibre, but associate your mobi and epub and such with calibre reader - Not calibre.
There is also a converter that can run in the terminal or from a run command included. You can delete everything else in the calibre directory and do everything from your own file manager if you don't want Calibre's manager.
