Germans are unironically one of the cringiest people on the planet, and have always been. They are kitsch to the root, venerate rules and hierarchy as an excuse for not thinking, and unironically believe they are better than anyone else (whether they are leftwing or rightwing). I have been living there for five years, got my PhD, and every time I change home I have 22 year old Germans instructing me (a 27 year old PhD who has been doing this for way longer than them) on how to recycle stuff just because I'm from Italy. French, Spanish, British and American friends all had similar experiences: Germans just assume you're stupid if you're not German. And don't you EVER dare criticizing a German or pointing out a mistake they made because they will resent you for life. In one place I've lived, I've had them throw stuff in the wrong bins when they're drunk, you tell them (joking), and they just silently walk away from the room. In another one, again a drunken German housemate tried to cook a frozen pizza and left the oven going through the night, and when I pointed out to maybe pay attention because that shit is expensive and dangerous, I've had the same silence and walk away reaction. In yet another house, yet another German housemate got drunk while playing vidya, she got scared and peed herself on the couch. I pointed out that she had to clean her own piss: she teamed up with the main tenant (also german) and had me sent away.
In my experience, Germans are lazy as fuck and resent working more than any other people in Europe, but also have this ingrained sense of guilt that if they don't work they will never amount to nothing. Which is why they alternate sessions of anger-fueled work to moments where they do absolutely nothing. On sunday, in Germany, nobody works. You literally can't buy groceries, it's like the fucking apocalypse. It looks like the whole country is protesting because they had to work during the week. And it's not like they do anything during weekends: they just sit around angrily waiting for monday, in protest.
I can expand with many, many stories about my five years here - especially on what pertains the sense of taste of Germans when it comes to literature and philosophy, which is what I study: they have absolutely no idea what constitutes good and bad literature, in academia and outside. They can't understand something can be beautiful without being useful or didactic or containing some sort of philosophical concept. The things that are usually regarded as good about Germany are good - trains are on time, services works, the country is generally rich, etc. But Germans are really fucking insufferable sometimes. You have the luxury of fetishizing the country only because you have never been there.

Pic related is austrian, but I recommend it to anyone who wants to have some insight into the inherent defects of German-speaking people.

I heard Albert Speer is great but I still didn't had the time to read his book same as "Hitler's Table Talk". The only book which I read and is aviable in English is
"Until the Eyes Shut: Memories of a machine gunner on the Eastern Front, 1943-45"

The issue with Albert Speer is that he went out of his way to whitewash himself and his actions while throwing the others under the bus to save his hide, so his memoir is a PR campaign carefully designed to craft an image of Speer as well-meaning quasi-dissident ignorant of the Holocaust, despite it being now confirmed he visited multiple concentration camps and was implicated in actions that others hanged for.
So read Albert Speer with a pound of salt, and more as a study of a PR campaign than a history to be taken at face value.

Hitler's Revolution shows the ideology, economic policies, social programs and handling of the inner workings of the Reich. The life standard and condition of the average German.

Then it goes into the diplomatic side and all the peace offerings Hitler gave France, England, Poland and the others and how the war was started.

Thomas Dalton - Debating the Holocaust is the book to read on this topic. It shows the best of both sides and goes through all the details from the ghettos, population numbers before and after the war, diesel engine trucks, volume of rooms, amount of wood necessary for burning a body, the logistics, pictures from Allied airplanes. Everything together shows how big of a lie this thing is.

Read the book. There is evidence for multiple invasions in German land and extermination campaigns in Poland against Germans long before the war and a Polish government in bed with Britain wanting a war with Germany. Can't know if you don't look.

Also, Thomas Goodrich - Hellstorm. It shows the attempted genocide against Germans by Allied forces. Millions of women from 8 to 80 years old raped and around 14 million people killed in total. More Germans died after surrendering than during battle.

This one is cruel, but it has to be read. Their suffering, their struggle must be remembered. When you finish those 3 books, you will truly understand what happened and who is responsible.

I think people underestimate how miserable it would be to the ruled over by the subhuman krauts. You could literally put black Americans in charge of stuff and it would be more tolerable. How would visiting a camp implicate you in the holocaust? None of the “death camps” were in Germany. Most were used just as a bridge to house them until deportation and then turned into labor camps.
Japanese were put in camps here. Should FDR have been hanged?
And you keep claiming PR as if the Allies told the tale using only objective facts and unbiased analysis.
The war could have ended years earlier and the whole holocaust prevented if they didn’t hold to their policy of unconditional surrender. Hitler’s shitty economic policies would have spiraled and collapsed the German economy and they would have been forced to liberalize eventually. Most likely Hitler would have been removed either by political assassination or a coup.
And the bigger problem always was the Soviets. At the very least they could have let both regimes wear themselves out trying to destroy each other and then avoided the 50 year Cold War that followed. Instead they favored one flavor of totalitarianism over another and we still turn a blind eye to the atrocities of communism. Nobody have ever been cancelled for praising Stalin.

A very underrated book that is written before the war is Paavolainen's Guest in the Third Reich.

Finnish writer is chosen with other nordic authors for some sort of literature program in Nazi Germany. They discuss with other writers and gets to take part of the festival of lights, art exhibtion, forest tour, meet some celebrities and similar stuff at the peak of the whole thing.
