The Second Apocalypse (Bakker's Magnum Opus) is a tremendously refreshing well-written masterpiece. I couldn't give you enough adjectives to make it justice.
He also happens to be one of the best contemporary fantasy authors. Arguably the best living one, in my humble opinion.
Just ignore the memes, people get out of control when Bakker is mentioned. On both sides, I might add. Still worth checking out for yourself, regardless.

While the first one (let's be generous and say first 3) may not be as much trashfires as the later, they're still far from the best, or even good, children books. Hell, even Redwall is much better by dint of having cute animals.
If you adjust for genre, then you'd need to bump up stuff like Smellderson's final empire serie which is very competent YA. Sanderfag shitposting aside, if you *actually* think final empire is not a cut above the average YA you just haven't read YA. That shit is *awful*.
Anyway you shouldn't adjust for genre, this list is made for the retards who browse /sffg/, not the soccer mom browsing the nytimes "what to buy for your insufferable brats this christmas" rec list. Hopefully people in this godforsaken general read above children literature.

The translation is one of the worst I've ever read and I wonder if the author learned spotty English to do it himself. The amount of convenience that plays into his grand schemes causes me to roll my eyes every time.

Qing Shu and Bai Ning Bing had their epic showdown during the wolf tide. Good enough note to drop the series on. Definitely not worth it and the regular thread shill for the series should be put into an Uyghur concentration camp in China. Thanks for attending my review.

You can, it's just not recommended because it's comparatively not very good.
Discworld is comprised of independent series and one-off books. It's recommended that you read any given serie in order since, well, they follow each other, but aside from that you can pick and choose.
I usually recommend Pyramid (5th or 7th in publishing order iirc) which is a one-off. It's a good distillation of what make discworld discworld so you'll quickly see if you want more.

My favorite part was when the droplet attack begins and it just goes on and on and on. And on. And still on. Even though it's literally the same thing happening every time. Dude just list all 2000 ships in an appendix and let's fucking move on.

The third book also has some pacing issues, but it's nowhere near as bad as TDF.

They watched it for NINE HOURS.

>Bersercucks when you tell them that the manga was only good as a glorified artbook of monsters and tiddies and the one time Miura tried to be deep and philosophical his ideas were so shitty that he had to retcon them out of manga, while Bakker's conception of God of Gods and Thousandfold Thought is one of the most unique and creative ideas in history of genre fiction

I have just finished reading what is available for this and enjoyed it immensely. Writing, setting and characters are all solid, but what really sells it is the complete Inversion of the Harry Potter story. The Main Character has his YER A WIZARD moment, sees that the Wizarding world is fucked, and promptly drops everything and goes innawoods and spends the rest of the time dodging glow in the dark Wizstapo niggers.

I neither love nor hate him. His books aren't amazingly written, and are at their best they're like a pretty decent action-adventure film with some fun dialogue and characters. It's when they aspire to more that they stumble, along with the fact that he has a bad habit of repeating and remixing the same things over and over. This is probably why the standalones are his best work. The new trilogy was ok albeit predictable, until the final book which was absolute garbage, worse than any previous first law book. He's never going to measure up to the greats, but he tends to be better than most of the other current popular authors.

This is simply the result of being compiled serials, not independent novels. The old serials *had* to retread things, because there was absolutely no guarantee that anyone reading it was at all familiar with the series.
I've only read the stories written by Howard however, can't speak for anything else.

I'm really getting tired of every search result for a book or review I do, I get mother fucking smug zoomer Daniel Greene as the top result. I know it's my fault for being on youtube, but I'm not even subscribed to this faggot and he always pops up. His book takes are terrible. He is pretentious and condescending. because he has very basic and inoffensive opinions and most people like that. he also got amazon money to shill their Wheel of Time show and used it to pump his channel
