this is a thread questioning which nation, india or greece, has a richer philosophical tradition
this is not a thread questioning everything around philosophy itself

which one is it?
answer or begone from my thread

>>19894350
You didn't say richer, you said 'better.' Philosophy is not objectively better, the least you could do is describe the parameters you want to know. Your question is quite vague and open as it is.

Yeah, but current day Greeks and Indians are just old world beaners. You’ve gotta keep this shit in mind.

BTW I can’t contribute because I’m trying not to relapse into a porn addiction and I have a thing for bush. I’m sure you /lit/wits can connect the dots here.

Greek thought after Socrates was a lot more analytical and focused a lot on practical philosophy. There's a lot of virtue ethics and proper ways of action in Greek thought, and a lot of reasoning as to why that is the right approach.

Indian Philosophy was a lot more metaphysical (hindu) and at the same time had a strong skepticist streak (Buddhism, Jainism). Epistemology was big in India among both Hindus and Buddhists.

Indian Philosophy was more theophoric in general and they tried to adhere to a "canonical" scripture such as the later Christians did with the Bible. Greek philosophers had no such thing.

Analytical in the sense similar to analytic philosophers today? I thought analytic philosophers are more concerned with metaphysics and logic than its continental counterparts which seems more 'practical'.

I haven't read any Indian "philosophy" (not actual philosophy, by the way) because it's irrelevant.
Start with the presocratics, then Plato, then Aristotle. These alone can take more than a year. Come back later for more.

When the Abbasid caliphate, stretching from Spain to the Hindu Kush, entered its great translation project, weighing indic against Greek philosophy, they went with Greek. Aristotle and neoplatonism in particular. However when it came to mathematics the Greeks were found wanting and they went with Hindu algebra. When it came to medicine, they just mashed it all together
