Does only reading fiction make me less intelligent than people who read non-fiction?

The fact that you feel the need to ask says more about your intelligence than what types of books you read

>> No.19888630

Yeah, sadly.
Even the most top level prose (Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Flaubert) is still midwit tier.
Start over with the Greeks.

>midwit tier.
But can you surpass it? I mean, if it's midwit tier, surely a high level genius such as yourself can destroy the foremost prose writers.

Some of the most uninquisitive morons I’ve ever met only read non-fiction. Some of the most vague normies I’ve ever met only read fiction. To be well-read you must read both, but even then the format matters less than the actual value and intelligence of the material.

No. Because 'non-fiction' generally means overserious bugmen reading self-help. Although you shouldn't waste your time in fantasy, if you can't appreciate fiction, that is literary fiction, then you are deficient.

yes. read fiction and non-fiction. it's enjoyable learning about the world. you do enjoy reading, right?

non-fiction means scientific and historic literature. you're just projecting your ignorance onto literature and it's only detrimental to yourself.

the best non-fiction authors (we call them philosophers) use fictional allegories to prove their point.

This. Fiction is ultimately entertainment and even Dosto was the Netflix of his day. Proof: a well written but dumb story can still pass as good fiction but an insightful but badly written not. The goal is entertainment and the content is accessory. The contrary is true with non fiction (see Kant, Hegel).
