King of /sffg/.

Simple as.

>> No.19875097

The anons here don't want to discuss on 4chan, discord, goodreads, or anywhere else. Reddit has more activity if only because there so many more posters, but it's not like it's that much better in quality or even that it'd be the sort of discussion you'd prefer. The simple fact of the matter is that no one wants to discuss in any meaningful way. The reason why is simple. Discussion takes time and effort that most anyone would rather be doing something else instead. Anything else really. Few people seem to care for discussion in of itself. Imagine sincerely caring about what others post aside from your own emotional reaction to it.

Sure, some posts may garner replies, but those replies are all about the poster, not the post. When someone is posting for the purpose of internally and/or externally screaming, "AWWW YEAAAAH, FEELS GOOD MAN TO TELL THAT POSTER HOW STUPID THEY ARE!" or other similar nonsense that's not discussion. This post as well is no different. It's about my reaction. You need to understand that the purpose is to be anonymous twitter. Short bursts of nonsense that you fire and forget and intermittent casual trolling and limitless loads of masturbatory ejaculations

Don't reply to this post. Whatever you have to say doesn't matter to me, you, or anyone else. This post stands alone on its own. Not that anyone is doing any more than glancing through it anyway ~~~~~||||////\\\\\\|||||~~~~~ Oh, did that get your attention? Stop reading. Read it all or none at all. Don't like that? I don't care and you shouldn't either. That's one of your problems, you don't know when to stop reading posts that aren't of any value.

Can anything be done about any of this? Yes, of course it can. Will anything be done? No, of course not, why would there be? There's no incentive for anyone. We're all doing it for free and we're the content. If you don't think you are, then ask yourself, is anyone profiting from you being here? Yes, there is. If there wasn't, then this site wouldn't be.

Even so, what are you, or anyone else, going to do about it? Nothing. Nothing at all, ever. There isn't anything wrong with that. Sometimes you just have to give up and give in and no longer care. Once you do so, you can being the process of becoming free.

Would you even want to be free? No. So really it's a terminal phase, but by the time you realize that it won't mean anything to you. Nothing will.

No matter how much you suffer, you fear living even more.

I've put it off long enough. I need to type into the void about this book and fruitlessly recommend it. I am on book 3 (of 4) now.
It's about a high-tech society regressing back to preindustrial era and the assorted remnants of humanity using what they know to get back on their feet, with two primary factions; the 'good guys' main HQ was originally a small area ran by reenactors, who held a regular Renn Fair, turned into a growing refugee town. The 'main' figurehead of the story had the equivalent of a doctorate in polisci as well as... something involving war tactics/stratagem so he is quite literally the most knowledgable general alive, and I've been liking the subtle 300IQ power plays.
The book is sf with a tinge of fantasy, well-researched and articulated. Hell, it's the first fiction book I've ever read where I've cared about, or became immersed into the politics and structure of military. In this series, chain of command and discipline is being taught from the ground up since it's all a hodge-podge.
>no censorship of any subject, even rape is discussed casually in context as one plot point revolves around setting up counseling for raped-by-bandits victims
>another plot point revolving around body-regulating nannites failing post-Fall and women having to experience menstruation, which hasn't occurred naturally for at least a millennia, and the subsequent logistics of taking cotton/silk resources from elsewhere
>a burgeoning intel group developing with one character calling its leader a "spook" in passing (intel guy is fucking cool though)
>crazy dude who Changed himself into a dwarf, to mine a refilled mountain with natural resources and a hardened material as an adamantine-equivalent
>lots of Changed individuals so you have beast/mer/avian-creatures popping up
>yes, dragon-girls

Here's the guy who Changed himself into a dorf
>>Two centuries before Angus Peterka had gotten so enraptured by the traditional image of dwarves that he had Changed and started his own dwarf colony in the Steel Hills of Sylva. The hills had been mined out millennia before, but in the last half a millennia most of the materials had been reimplanted under a long-term ecological rebuilding program or through dumping into the hollowed out mines. He had added materials that were not original to the mountains, streams of silver, various jewels, gold and, deep, deep in the mountain a nanotech-based material that he had decided met the conditions for adamantine. All of the material was put in with a semirandom generator and for the last two centuries he'd been trying to find it all. He referred to it as "proper mining," his friends referred to it as "the world's largest scavenger hunt." Other "dwarves" came and went, but Angus stayed on, propping shafts, finding veins and quaffing beer.

It's a fun story.

>>19875093
A little over halfway though pic related since review anon praised it last week and my opinion of it has only gone up. Characters, setting, and magic are extremely well thought out and the story is fairly constrained being almost totally set within a single city so far, with very grounded characters. I'm also really impressed with the author's ability to write women, not in "girl boss" or "based misogynistic" ways but just really genuine feeling to my experience.

Read Demon Chains. Not on the list but it is a book where, in the first chapter, two dudes get raped by another dude with the help of a demon. It's the only sff I've come across where the bad guy ends up raping only dudes/boys.
It's fun. The pacing is good. Second book in a series but you don't strictly need to read the first book to understand it. I'd say the biggest flaw is the MC being Not!Batman but considering the content, it's funny with the author being a devour Christian guy. It's also a relatively short read.

Am I a massive idiot if I can't get into Wolfe? I've tried the new sun series and I tried wizard knight. There are interesting ideas there but I felt like I had to re read every paragraph 3 times to fully understand it. Idk maybe I'm just an dumbo, but it wasn't enjoyable.

My name is Bakker and I'm here to say
That I'm going to rap in an eliminativist way
Word on the street
Your soul is just meat
Attempts to disprove
Are met with defeat
See it doesn't really matter what you feel
Because your inner experience isn't real
See here's the thing
You're a puppet on a string
Completely enslaved by your conditioning
It's a truth that you can't escape
God is long dead
And neuroscience rises in its stead
Going full hard-gay
Is the only KINO way

He's a wealth of knowledge, uploads classes that those mormon shits pay big money for. He's talented, albeit too simplistic with his prose. He loves his twists like shama-lamma-ding-dong. I plowed through all 6 of those mistborn books. Well of Ascension is the best written and Final Empire had the best plot. The rest are a drop in quality. I realized though by the time I was in Era 2 he keeps talking about this Cosmere shit. I realize where this is going. It's all a marvel cinematic universe. I don't like all this divine God business and interplanetary connection. Not only does it give me creepy LDS vibes but it's cringe and retarded. Now I'm to the point where I don't even want to check out Way of Kings because now I know they there will probably be some more God related interplanetary cosmere shit. I'll probably Read Elantris at some point and move on. He needs to go back to his roots and focus on stories that are more grounded like Final Empire.

As I said, he became formulaic, predictably repetitive. Stormlight started out well enough, albeit obscenely lengthy and padded, but it went to shit real fast after book 2. Either way, he's got a cushy position, connections, and is too big to fall.

Funny you say skirting around the topic of sex. His Mistborn books had no sex and then out of nowhere in Bands of Mourning the horny Mormon's writing started to slip out. I don't like any isekai. I don't even like Alice in Wonderland. I think isekai is for lame niggas who want to self insert and wish that was them, or for authors that can't think of a real story or a real way to explain their world outside of having the character go "aha, I know how to solve this problem" or "man, this isn't how it works back where I come from"

The writer wrote the books in Polish. I don't speak Polish. A translation would not have the same craft that the Polish author wrote. Therefore, I'm not going to pretend to read a version of the book that isn't his. Same reason I'm not going to read Don Quixote because I don't read in Spanish. If I was tasked with studying the book for a particular book that's one thing, but I prefer English writers for fiction because I like to read the actual words they wrote.
