I love poetry.

My favorite poem is "The Love Song" by a guy named J. Alfred Prufrock, but I can't find anything else by him.

Help?

Perhaps I am misinformed, but I was given to understand that poetry relies on language.

>>1984601
And you managed to reveal that without the use of poetry and with great economy of language. Well done.

>Perhaps I am misinformed, but I was given to understand that poetry relies on language.

Considering poetry usually consists of words it's understandable that you would think that. What i was saying was that the best poetry often conveys something that goes beyond the language itself, something just out of reach of comprehension, and it's this mystery that gives it it's ethereal beauty.

I started thinking about how impossible it is for an object to define itself, like Alan Watts said, 'trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth'. Well, it occured to me that poetry is what people write when they try and bite their own teeth.
