oh i was just wondering - cant use torrents so i go to rapidshare-type sites. my girlfriend just bought a kindle actually and i was trying to get her books she wanted. also you can put .pdfs on a kindle but you cant edit the text size so its pretty tiny (you can zoom, but that doesn't help) so what i wound up doing was saving the .pdf as a .txt and putting it into the documents file on her kindle...worked pretty swell

How do you save a pdf as a txt file?

>> No.1982823

Both Kindles and Nooks support PDF, so long as they're just plain text PDFs, I believe.

You get better formatting if you convert them to ePub files, though.

Well OP, I read books, personally.

Probably, but not without losing the formatting. There may be ways of converting from text-only PDF to EPUB or the like, but you'd be better off getting EPUBs directly if you can.

Calibre makes converting between ebook formats easy as fuck. I converted all my ebooks from PDF to EPUB using it recently when I bought an ebook reader.

What actually happened is your eyes were already shit, but you didn't realize it because you never had to read ebooks for hours on end. After too much eye strain from reading without glasses, you decided you needed glasses, which you actually needed all along.

I'm sure if you stopped reading ebooks you wouldnt need the glasses anymore.

Unless you are younger than like 15, I guarantee your eyes didn't get worse.

I use a program called Nocturne, it inverts the colors on the screen, so I read white text on black, and is a lot less strain on my eyes.
It is a Mac program, I have not looked into whether there is a pc version

Don't. Get an ereader. And if you don't want to get an ereader get some kind of inexpensive second-hand, handheld game console to use as an ereader.

Picture related. The gamepark GP32 was an awesome ereader before there was such a thing as proper ereaders.

Quit your whining. In my day we had to read our e-books on an old TV converted to a CRT, in six inches of snow uphill both ways. And we liked it. (Well apart from the regular migraine headaches, but let's not get hung up on that.)

They are not reading glasses, I'm near-sighted. and all of a sudden I started being unable to read shit across my apartment.
