American blonde oak with a stain.
English oak is nearly gone here in the UK.
I think it might be prohibited actually.
The paneling on the one wall is English oak.
Thanks anon. Glad it is liked.

It is quiet squat.
Comfy but really low.
It is just right for two people sat upright next to one another.

>I am 6 foot and if I rest my neck on one arm I can put the arch on my knees on the other and my arse in the very centre.
That's just about right, my man. I have a very fat lazy chair that I bring next to the window in the morning. I bring my coffee and breakfast on a tray to the table next to it and rest my feet over the small couch it was split from, and put a blanket on my legs. My cat jumps on and curls up on my thighs, purring while I have my coffee. When the early light starts shining through the window I read for a while, but sometimes I just take another nap.

In this context blonde oak could mean two things, it is from multiple species which are all close enough to white oak to group together but not all white oak or it is to help distinguish it from a more common (in the UK) European species also called white oak. The former is more likely in this case, common way for wholesale lumber lots to be sold to distributors and the big cabinet/furniture making industry, just says all off these species are close enough aesthetically that you can even out the color with stain and most people will never notice. Distributors will generally sort and grade them and sell them off as what they are, but the big cabinet/furniture makers are less picky and when a wood is being shipped overseas where the market does not really know any better so they just keep the blonde oak name and skip the bother of sorting for species. This practice is not as common as it used to be since CITES complicated things for the entire trade, but it is still around, in the US we see it most with Asian species but even some with domestic species, ipe is 7 different species (last I looked) and they do not even look all that alike ranging from a light tan with visible pores to a dark red with invisible pores, they just all perform equally well for what they are sold for and all will be the same grey color after a year in the weather.

My neighbor owns a sawmill and contributes to 3 of the professional organizations that grade American Hardwoods. He specializes in Black Walnut, White Oak and Red Oak species.

We grade the lumber at the mill, and it's illegal to call it something other than White oak, one of just under 100 species, because it's a regionally controlled good like your cheddars, perry, or scotch. Blonde oak doesn't exist. We have specific trade publications that determine everything from how the wood ismilled to how it's inspected and ultimately graded. Blonde oak is marketing as far as lumber production is concerned.

Which is exactly what I said. Not illegal and standard practice, they did not sell it as another species, they sold it as a product. I always hated your pedantry on /wwg/, just talked about your friends mill and posted picture of your wood stacks.

It needs a wash from the dust but it is gonna be there. And yes it is red tartan. The shelf lights are LED yes but they are off most of the time.
