I haven't exercised my creative writing skills for a very long time and now I am interested in building a world setting from scratch for my own gratification. However, I am pretty lost as where to begin!

So, any help on world building?

I'm kind of a marxist at these things.

Use the level of technology and the economic basis to create a culture/society. That's my tip. The windmill spawns the feudal society, while steam power spawns industrial etc.
