How has the bible managed to remain relatively popular? Voltaire said people would stop reading it by our time.

Because it is an incredibly important text.

Because the world will try to silence it with every perverse filth it can produce, but truth lives on. You're unhappy because you don't understand it, you won't understand it until you have faith. Cease striving friend, and finally find true peace and place to rest your head.

>how is it still so popular

the bible isn't popular so much as it's become yet another piece of media forming the basis of a commodity group. people who read the bible are just like people who listen to kpop, or people who suck massive cocks: they have a fixed set of beliefs and can be predicted to make certain kinds of purchases based on those beliefs. there's no point of erasing commodity groups entirely when they can be profited off of.

I would like to say. otherwise but the actual reason is this. There are definitely actual Christians around but especially in the USA, Christianity is just a way to exhibit conservatism and the people involved behave like any other consumer group. Also there's an evident push of various churches over the Internet because psychotherapy isn't worth shit when life is truly unbearable. I still think this is predatory behavior. The Bible is a treasure but it's not for its merits that it stayed afloat in this climate.

I am sure the bible has enough filth in it of its own.

Americans.
Voltaire was right as far as Europe is concerned, especially as cathllics don’t read the Bible themselves.

t. been raised without religion and my catholic friends who attended church during their youth don’t even know who the Pharisees are.

same reason the Quran is still popular, people cling to tradition because the modern world is a confusing mess. not that I'm putting the two on the same level, the bible at least develops some deeper philosophical ideas - but that depth isn't the reason most people read it, nor is it what they get out of it.
