Some good looking films I wasn't aware of. Notes have been taken.

Here is my recommendation. One of my favourites to watch whatever mood I am in; as poetic as an action film can get.

>> No.1974021

>>1973999
High five!

I am a huge fan of westerns, so every ten seconds there was a new thing to squee at. In the cinema I was laughing pretty much the whole time at some weird reference and people were looking at me all funny like.

Also, when Raoul says, 'I knew it!' not ten minutes into the movie, I fell in love.

>> No.1974031

Last Year at Marienbad - Resnais
Gummo - Korine
City of God - Meirelles
After Hours, The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver - Scorsese
I Heart Huckabees - Russell
I Stand Alone - Noe
The Machinist - Anderson
Monsters, Inc

I would only consider the first 3 films that I actually love, the rest have some really sweet bits, I'm looking to get more into movies.

>> No.1974036

The Machinist? Really? The first two thirds were great but the finale really left me feeling let down.

I'm more concerned about his inclusion of Gummo, which is absolute trash. Just random, gross imagery in the guise of DEEEEEEEP. Fuck that shit.

The movie had me hooked the second I noticed the Fear and Loathing reference on the highway - I just could not help but laughing.

But yeah, all in all, it was a good representation of the western movie period and had some darn good characters.

High-five indeed!

>> No.1974044

>>1974036
I like the finale. The movie itself I like because it's kind of like a fusion between fight club and memento but better than both of them. I also like all of the nods to dostoyevsky.

>>1974037
It's not so much the narrative that I like, I don't find any of the content deep or anything, I just like that it has absolutely no plot and absolutely nothing really going on except looking at some rednecks. It strikes me as a the film equivalent of Molloy.

Movie is more memorable. The music and animation were amazing, on par with Titan AE, and that really brought it to life more than the book. Also the movie has more adult themes.

So nobody else watched Synecdoche New York ? Or it's bad ?
Because I watched most movies listed here and they didn't blow my mind nearly as much.
It's not an action or baww movie and it hasn't a "I was actually dead all along" kind of plot.
It's just brilliant, honest and surrealistic drama stuff by Charlie Kaufman.

>> No.1974157

>>1974143
no no no no. It was pretentious and shitty.
Referencing Russian literature and David Lynch does not make a movie good. Every scene takes twice as long as it should.
Enough with the knowledge through suffering bullshit.
Also a terrible performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman

Kaufman should've stuck to writing rather than directing/

it's pretty great, probably the most ambitious movie i've ever seen.

So many things though. Some of them work really well, some of them don't, but overall it's a pretty great movie.

Also, I kind of wish someone would just tell me what to do in life so I can enjoy it more without worrying where i may be going or where i should be going.
