The real red pill is accepting they're great for their significance and quality, but most are far less enjoyable that many other books that don't constantly get recommended since they aren't top 100 or traditionally part of the western canon's essential reading.

Form your own taste. Read a bunch of the top classics, but don't be a generic midwit that only reads stuff that appears on these lists.

Charts are stupid but the purpose is to rank the fave books of anons, not create an "objective" list of The Best Books. Picrel is an npc.

You can leave anon. I'm a European and found a lot of interesting american literature thanks to this place. It's true that american anons are mostly monolingual bonobos trying to get out of their provincialism, but you should try to help them. It's not their fault if they think throwing shit at each other is a valid past-time. Imagine growing up with american television and roaming for most of your life through a state which is as big as europe but everywhere you go, instead of changing, it's still america - for kilometers and kilometers. It's not their fault for being stupid, since everywhere they go reading is regarded as an activity for homosexuals and women and if they worship "simplicity" over complexity for the sake of keeping people stupid and making them buy useless shit. I have lived there for several years: it was hard for me, and it's harder for them, because at least I know europe exists, and that people can live differently than in america. Most americans don't know this. But those who read Melville, Pynchon and McCarthy are at least trying to develop something like a soul out of the nihilistic desert of their country/continent.

What is this new fashion for hating "ESLs" for some perceived error of language (despite the fact that about half the time the accuser is themselves incorrect about the mistake)?
