I was an English major. Freshman year the ratio was about 50/50, sophmore year 30/70 male to female, and by senior year I was literally one of two men in one of my classes. A friend of mine got an English lit degree and masters in education, so about 5 1/2 years of schooling total. She is now an English teacher at a public school in the nearby city, and likes it so far. Her students treat her well, from what I've been told. I think if you go the teacher route, you preferably want to teach an AP/Honors class because you'll have students that care about the subject, or at least care enough to get a decent grade.

Every upper division lit class i had was all like 30 females and 3 guys. It wasn't as big of a deal as it sounds, because all except like 2 of the chicks were total pigs. Those two would always be taken too.
