I read Man and His Symbols. I find the idea of symbols in the collective unconscious compelling. Overall, the book has an interesting exposition of archetypes and their expression in different cultures.

This was a divulgative work. I imagine he gets far more esoteric in later works.

However interesting his ideas might be, a far amount of his ideas for therapy are useless, and it'd worring for a licensed therapist to work with a patient in late-Jung's terms.

since people are saying it helped them, which of his books should i read if i had a recently isolated and wasted youth (24 years old) due to now-gone anxiety, and have a strong will to live but no power?

Pretty solid schizocore. Kind of amazing that he had a full career as an academic and psychiatrist basically just by extrapolating his schizo free associations . I don't mean to say "schizo" lit to denigrate btw. It's one of my favorite genres of niche writing

Some interesting ideas about myth and story structure. But his intense focus on muh dreams is strange and off putting. Starts getting into schizo territory.

Anything outside of the average bugman materialist view is seen as schizo but any human ought to know that what hes talking about is as real as can be. Same people that are baffled by him will give you a blank stare and ask you what consciousness is.

Psychology is literally self help. You can use any theorical or even fictional framework and it can work, as long as you get someone to sit and talk about their problems.
There was a controversial video on YouTube once about a talk between a psychologist chick and a "quantum coach" dude (basically a motivational/self-help speaker that based his material on pseudo-quantum physics). There was all this fake controversy about whether quantum coaching was science or not, with the IFLS nerds ganging up on the dude and all I could think about was: the other chick is a psychologist. The real controversy is how psychology is accepted as a bona fide science and practice. One is as good as the other.
