Why does no one talk about this guy?

"The Infinite"
Always to me beloved was this lonely hillside
And the hedgerow creeping over and always hiding
The distances, the horizon's furthest reaches.
But as I sit and gaze, there is an endless
Space still beyond, there is a more than mortal
Silence spread out to the last depth of peace,
Which in my thought I shape until my heart
Scarcely can hide a fear. And as the wind
Comes through the copses sighing to my ears,
The infinite silence and the passing voice
I must compare: remembering the seasons,
Quiet in dead eternity, and the present,
Living and sounding still. And into this
Immensity my thought sinks ever drowning,
And it is sweet to shipwreck in such a sea.

"A Solitary Life" is too long to post but it's one of my favorites.

He's often mentioned here. You're not Christopher Columbus.

It's quite a complex poem and can be far better translated:
Ever dear to me has been this steep hill
And this hedge, which on so many sides
Of the last horizon the view excludes.
But sitting and gazing, interminable
Spaces beyond that, and superhuman
Silences, and deepest quietude
In thought I pretend; where for a little while
The heart is not afraid. And as the wind
I hear rustling among these plants, I that
Infinite silence to this voice
Compare: and the eternal comes to mind,
And the dead seasons, and the present, alive, and The sound of her. Thus among this
Inmensity my thought is drowned:
And shipwrecking is sweet to me in this sea.

He wrote in prose too: mainly Operette morali (Small moral works) and Zibaldone (his diary desu).
