Only read LotR on a pirated pdf, now I found this (and a cheaper, non illustrated version) and I'm really tempted to get this but this is expensive af, especially in the third world and on a tiny salary
Which should I get? If anybody has it, can you show me what the drawings are like?

I've always been partial to the Harper Collins mass market paperback set.

Thanks very much nigger slave
I've checked some sites for the illustrations and yeah, paying more than 300% is not worth the "70 watercolour paintings and numerous illustrations" I'll stick to the cheaper boxed set
For now

The all-in-one omnibus of LOTR may be even cheaper, get The Hobbit separately

Get the vinyl box set. Love the paper in that one

I have it and they are very nice. It's just Alan Lee's illustrations though, which have been around for years now. If you're only getting it for the illustrations I wouldn't bother.

Look it up yourself, dummy. I had a box set of the trilogy at one point with his illustrations (it might have been an older edition of this set) and I remember it being quite nice. Nice paper, binding seemed decent from what I remember, and I love Alan Lee's illustrations. his are my favorite, actually.

Just search for Lord of the Rings illustrations by Alan Lee and you'll see most of them. He's good and landscapes, bad at faces. This drawing of Luthien is one of his better ones.

Honestly, despite how beautiful many of these sets are, I think it's pretty dumb to fork out serious cash for a book which you're going to end up visualizing in your MIND anyways. The real pleasure from reading Tolkien should be from the immersed experience, not the bloody cover. If a PDF works and you're seated comfortably, that should be enough to get immersed in the story. Personally I like my Kindle, or rather I can't deal with reading a PDF on my phone and at least need to reading a .mobi file if not a real paper book. If it's a rare book not available digitally I guess it's ok to spend a lot of money, I admit.

I bought the trilogy set of this (no Hobbit). Large, heavy books, beautiful to look at. The illustrations are also nice, but that probably shouldn't be the main reason why you buy them.

If you have the money, you should treat yourself.
