Many of you might recall a series of threads I have done before on Understanding the Quran. This time I plan إن شاء الله to do something far more ambitious, a series of threads explaining the Quran from start to finish. A major dimension of this will be going over the nuance in the Arabic. It is potentially a very long series, for sources of exegesis I will be drawing mainly on Tabari (who emphasizes linguistics), Qurtubi (who emphasizes practice and jurisprudence), Ibn Kathir (who emphasizes context of revelation), Qutb (who emphasizes Quran against modernism, especially philosophically) and Sa’di (who is the simplest and gives plainer explanations for beginners). Suggestions are welcome, I want to help introduce the incredible depth and literary merit of this work. I’m not going to make a discord server as I think it will be superfluous but my account is ΟΥΤΙΣ#1741 if you wanted to contact me any time to figure out when the next thread is or locate one you missed

First and foremost are you an Ash'ari who believes in Tafwid al Ma'na? If so, I suspect we're going to see a lot of waffling on a handful of verses.

How often will you post these threads?
What do I do if I miss a thread?
Can you just start a Discord server? I'll create a Discord account if I must.

I might later. I’m going to go in order starting from Fatiha, reason being is tafsir doesn’t tend to repeat explanation. For example the phrase Bismillah At-Rahman ar-Raheem is repeated at the beginning of almost every Surah but tafsir explains it in depth for Fatiha and doesn’t repeat this explanation every time. Same with a lot of concepts and vocabulary

I will try to make at least once a week إن شاء الله. If there is a lot of traffic then I might make a server but unless a lot of people are interested there isn’t much point

If you miss a thread let me know, I will link it, it stays readable for quite some time after dying

What is the purpose of prayer beads in Islam?

>> No.19677349

Counting dhikr (remembrance) which are short phrases repeated over and over. The practice comes from Hadiths but the beads were adopted later. Some Salafis dislike them because the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his companions didn’t use beads and it is seen by some as an imitation of the rosary. Ibn Taymiyyah disliked them because he saw using them as showing off and advocated just saying dhikr silently without people bro able to tell. By and large however they’re not controversial at all except many sufis get in circles and chant dhikr in unison and Salafis tend to find that objectionable and contrary to the point since a Hadith relates a companion chanting very audibly and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “The One Whom you call is not deaf.”

I have very long hours at work so I may not get back until after this thread is dead but feel free to message me with any questions. I intend to إن شاء الله تعالى start with an short introduction to the Quran and an introduction to Al Fatiha (which is the Qur’an’s introduction to itself of sorts but a more detailed one given in the start of al-Baqarah, the second Surah). The etiquettes or reading it, its circumstances of revelation, its purpose and place and significance as well some different opinions about it. Then in the next thread start with the first verse
