So I want to get into literature, and I'm downloading tons of books, but I feel somewhat overwhelmed, not sure where to begin, and I'll be starting in odd places with certain thing and I feel like I'll be branching off in all kinds of directions, and I worry I might be a little too retarded for this, is that normal? Am I going about this wrong?
The stuff I want to get into is philosophy (I'll start with the gayreakss, I don't think it should be so bad), and anthing to help me understand /x/faggotry, which is where my main problem lies, I'll just be reading random books recommended and I'll feel like I'm going all over the place and getting nowhere, I want to flesh out my understanding. Sorry if this is literally retarded, I am just coming out of years of frying my brain with pointless, not mentally demanding shit, and deviant porn for a good while spending hours looking at it a day, so I'm dumbed down significantly, thus jumping right into /lit/ can't be the easiest. I surely would not have made this post in the past, but gotta start somewhere.

Anyways,

Every time you try to read one book, focus on that one book and try to get as much out of it as possible, ignoring the existence of absolutely everything else.
A deep reading of a few books will grant you a much deeper comprehension of what you want to learn than a shallow, surface-level skimming of hundreds of books.

Will do. I guess I'll also start meditating to sort of fix my mind.

Also I'm aware of the "how to read" image in the sticky, but I don't need that, just want help with going about this properly.

Take notes on important concepts you come across and copy definitions for each word defined in the text.
Try to see how each main argument gets developed in the text and contemplate the logical repercussions for ideas and thoughts provided in the text.
If possible, try to compare texts or fragments from the same region/time period/school of thought and see how they approach the same subject/idea in slightly different ways.

Creating "want to read" libraries will burn you out. Maybe try to think more clearly of what you want to achieve? what is faggy on /x/ ?

Thanks Anon.

>what is faggy on /x/ ?
Nothing, when I said that, it's like sayning someone is a newfag, or oldfag, just means they are new or old on here, not an actual faggot.

commit to ONE (1) BOOK.
Read it.
Repeat.
ezpz.
protip: don't look for another book until you're finished with the one you're reading. this will help you avoid choice paralysis.

>I'm downloading tons of books
Already made your first mistake, if you download tons of books beforehand you will never read any of them. First take some time to research a book you really want to read and then download that single one.

I go on the wiki and download charts in their entirety and start wherever in there. This is a good one for genre fiction
